Burping

Hello all, I’m just wondering if anyone has experience a lot of burping after your surgery? Today is my 15th day post bypass surgery and I think the Gas they used for my surgery should be out by now, right? If I sip any liquid, or eat any purée food I immediately have to burp. It is annoying and embarrassing. Is this normal?

Yes I remember needing to burp a lot more than usual, but my doc had prepared me for this explaining how tiny the new stomach did not have the space to allow swallowed air to comfortably and slowly be absorbed. With the new tiny sleeve, normal air ingested during swallowing can have an immediate & discomforting effect, and even bring food back up with it especially if laying down too soon after eating. Being vertical is almost required now for burps.

I can distinctly remembering really trying to swallow little bitty swallows in effort to not swallow air. You certainly don't have any residual gas from surgery at this point. Just take it slow, take micro swallows of stuff - and when you feel a burp bubble forming up just give it the time it needs to get out before you swallow anything else.

Thank you all at least now I understand what is causing them and I Hope the burping eventually minimizes or goes away. Im already eating with a baby spoon so I can eat small quantities. I feel like I eat very slowly. It takes me an hour and a half to finish a premier protein shake. But I guess I’ll try to not open my mouth so much while I eat my purée food lol.
