Do you believe these problems are related to your surgery? If so, you should see your post-op team or read government publications that document changes in health following surgery. If not, well, there's really no way to compare yourself to someone else unless you BOTH go to the same doctor and have the same exams and tests. Can you say more?

I know that these problems were related to my gastric bypass. Petersen Defect. Look it up. I had emergency surgery at 2 am. I had a large internal hernia, bowel obstruction, and a hole in my bowel.

Also… I wasn’t comparing any illnesss or problems to Bariatric surgery. If I had been, I would have named a specialist problem. I was simply asking if anyone that has bariatric surgery more then 3 years ago had any problem. Nothing specific… therefore nothing to compare.

The only way I can help you is to say I'm sorry for the problems. I have not had the surgery yet. I will need to look at Petersen Defect. I'm so sorry you had to have an emergent surgery for a hernia. I wish you well soon!

Had to have sleeve converted to bypass due to Gerd . Only 1 yr out . Biggest issue is lost digestive enzymes , stomach always feels queasy and want to eat nothing but crackers and ginger ale . But doesn’t help so must be the closed of stomach sending the queasy feeling .
Also meds don’t work like used to

Hi Chelsea, I just wanted to say that I think there was a misunderstanding here, Diane is trying to be helpful, asking questions so that she can offer any assistance. I'm sure you're feeling awful so it's easy to understand that you're feeling irritable but please remember-on this site people are genuinely responding with an interest in helping.

I had internal hernias repaired just shy of one year post op RNY GB and have been doing well, but recently starting to have that same pain and discomfort, nausea and fullness again. We'll see what happens? It's a rare complication but it does happen. I'm sorry this is happening to you and if you need to talk about it, please share.

Hi Chelsea, I am 3 years out and have no health problems. I wish you the best and hope all your health issues resolve soon.

I am 10 years out and have complications that have resulted in many hospitalizations due to the inability to maintain a balance with food and exercise. This last hospitalization in Jan 2026 after the second year of hospitalizations they said there was a kink in my intestine by the time I made it to the Emergency room the intestine connecting my Roux -y had necrafied or lost blood flow. It resulted from a bowel obstruction. It was scary and I was able to get there in time. It is not a good feeling, and I have to change everything at this point. My mindset, my eating and my exercise habits. I have been in school for over 6 years and at the same time worked in a high stress environment for many years working in a Christian women's shelter and recovery program as a program supervisor. I believe God has removed that stress and burden something I would not be able to do on my own. I am ready to take control and take my health and wellbeing seriously. How many more chances will I get to start this journey. I am in a low stress environment. I am in recovery at the moment and have 4 weeks more of light duty. In this time I will get a plan of action together. I have counseled women for many years and now it is time to take some encouragement and suggestions of my own. So here I am to ask for your help and encouragement! Yes, I am crying as I am writing this. The first step is admitting that my life is out of control with food insecurities, body image and past hurts that plague me.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through all of this, though glad you are now listening and taking care of yourself. I think we all get on this journey with a lot more baggage than just our weight. I've recently come to a point where I realize I need to talk to the bariatric psychologist again, I feel huge (I'm not) and the impulse to lose weight is strong, though there is no health benefit to losing weight. My body image is a problem at the moment. I see the old me, then look more closely and see the me now, and it registers for a moment.
I'm glad you had the courage to share this, I know many of us here are going through the same things.

I wish there was a hug emoji as a choice in here. I'd have one right here for you. I can't add one with my phone.....I just tried, it didn't show up once posted. If we did have one, it'd be a compassionate, I'm here for you looking one. Take care. I wish you the best.
