5 Days Out Of Surgery…

Had the gastric bypass surgery done Thursday September 8th . Today is my fifth day and I’m having some issues with being able to have my protein . Also confused because of the fact that some say to have proteins shakes and others say not until the first week is over , I guess everyone is different. I did notice that protein shakes containing milk based made my stomach super upset … so I tried to just do water and protein powder and it seems ok but still having problems getting them in . Also as far as juice and broths Any suggestions??? Thanks

Hello,
Every surgery center team has different "rules" and diet guidelines. I was allowed full liquids (shakes) the day I was home from the hospital. I tolerate them fine but a lot of the flavors I liked before surgery I cannot stand now. So my options are much more limited. It took me about 2 weeks to be able to meet the protein and fluid goals. I just made sure i kept pushing, and each day had more than the last until I was there.
Since my 2 week followup I have had no issues hitting protein or fluids BUT I do have to still drink a shake every day to hit the goal. I can't eat quite enough to hit the protein goal. I suppose I could eat constantly but that would make it hard to get in the fluids.
Anyway, Don't stress it takes some time to start hitting the goals just keep pushing forward and tracking it so you can see you are making progress.

Hello. I was put on clear liquids for a week and then protein shakes after. If you're having a hard time, clear protein is always an option. Isopure makes a clear powder you add to water. Protein 2o and premier both make clear. Even Gatorade makes a clear protein now.

They are a little lower in protein but go down easier this early out, imho. Hang in there.
