I thank God that my surgery was successful!
I actually failed my first two-week pre-op diet and had to restart with a three-week pre-op, which was incredibly difficult. Even though I didn’t lose any weight, I did have moderate ketones, so my body was still responding to the diet. The first few days after surgery were rough. Most of my pain came from the larger incision between my breasts and from the gas pain in my chest and back. Thankfully, the gas pain improved significantly after I started walking the hospital hallways on the first day.
Since I had both a sleeve gastrectomy and my gallbladder removed, I didn’t feel like my pain was fully under control, so I chose to stay in the hospital for two nights. I finally had my first small bowel movement yesterday!
My surgeon told me that my gallbladder was very large and difficult to remove, but he said it was a blessing that we took it out when we did because it likely would have caused more problems down the road. According to my care team, I’m meeting all of my early recovery milestones, which I’m very grateful for.
One question for the ladies: has anyone experienced a yeast infection within the first week after surgery? I’m less than a week post-op and wondering if this is something others have dealt with during recovery.
