Hello Dee- I'll be 66 next month and had the sleeve done 3/19/19. It has been a fine experience once I got past a short bout of depression, constipation and dehydration in the beginning. I was prepared by what I had read and heard from the doctor. Everything that my doctor has said has been echoed in this forum. There are some smart folks here. Following the post-op instructions laid out by your doctor will get you through it. Browse through these forums and you will be amazed that many of your questions will be answered.I will be having gastric sleeve in about 4 months. Wondering if there are any other seniors out there that have had the surgery, and what your experience was.
Hello Texnoble I'm 69 and just had sleeve done on Jan 8, 2019 my personal doctor told me I had only a year to live so I had no choice my diabetes was out of control but just in 14 days after surgery Diabetes was gone no more pills for that and heart. I feel great, lost already 107 pounds and still going. The only pills I will have to take for the rest of my life is vitamins and calcium. But for myself this was a life saver. Hope this helps if you need more info, write and I will try to help any way I can.Hello Dee- I'll be 66 next month and had the sleeve done 3/19/19. That is a tough place for you to be in. I assume he is your primary caretaker.Hello all, I am new to this site and was glad to see a heading about us seniors and bariatric surgery.I am 67 years old and had the surgery on August 6, 2019, the sleeve procedure. I have been very fortunate not having very many issues since starting. I have a lot of underly diagnoses, the worst being severe neuropathy in my Feet and legs. They are Numb and painful. both at the same time. I can’t figure that one out! My doctor later said he was worried but I fooled them all, I did awesome. I was 301, and now 279, going a little slower than I want. So anyway my problem is that I get depressed, usually because of my husband and the way he speaks to me. I feel like I’m an idiot, no that’s not the right word, he makes me feel worthless with his words and tone. I try to blow it off but it’s all the time. I had a life-threatening event six years ago and became semi disabled. I have no balance orStrength in my legs so I need to use a walker, or a wheelchair if I have to go long distances. He has taken good care of me since then and I thank God I’m alive, but now he thinks I s should do more than I do and treats me like, for lack of a better word shit. He’s been through a lot too with my illness and both of us have changed. I just wish I knew what to do when he talks to me like he does. So I cry and that doesn’t make him very happy either. I was doing so well up until yesterday with my depression and I let it get the better of me. Sorry to go on so long about this unrelated really topic to bariatric surgery but I just needed to vent.
Thank you, I will just pull up my big girl pants and talk to myself about how I’m handling it and I should be better after that. I do have one son nearby that I can call on an emergency so I need something . The home health thing is a good idea though. That is a tough place for you to be in. Do you have any children nearby that can help?
That is just verbal and mental abuse and no one should have to take that.
Do you access to Home Health with your insurance? Sometimes they can come in to help out and give the spouse a break.
Prayimg it gets better for you. Keep us updated.

- verbal abuse is domestic abuse.
- he firmly believes what he is saying is the right thing to say and arguing with his reality, even gently, might set him off.
- verbal abuse is not conversation.
- He has set up a codependent relationship with you.
- Open yourself up to new possibilities. What do you have to lose?
Hi D, I had a a sleeve done in Jan 8 2019 and to date I have lost 130 pounds I was given a year to live. I feel great look much better. Once you get over the first month everything is great. You must stick to the diet. Protein is the key. NO carbs you don't need carbs at all. I also use a small saucer plate for my meals. I go out to eat and my wife will order steak or fish and I will take about 3 to 6 ounces and I'm full. I also HAD Diabetes very bad and after 14 days I was taken off all Med's for it. I now only take my Vitamin's and calcium every day. That will be for the rest of my life. But I don't mind that at all. Hope this helps you out.I will be having gastric sleeve in about 4 months. Thanks for your input. I have to start moving more.i live near York Pa and it’s beautiful now but soon the weather will not be so nice.im hoping my Medicare gym membership will be good where I know there is a poolHang in there it is to bad that he doesn't see your side. I am 69 and had mine done Jan 8, 2019 and as to date lost over 130 pounds you MUST stay on your diet. I also have neuropathy in my feet, I found out that keep walking as much as you can. That will help greatly. I bought a stationary bike and also go in a pool to help myself out. I also was in a wheelchair for 4 months but that is all behind me now. Your goal right now is to keep on going and stick to your diet. Living in Florida does help me go to the pool everyday, but since I bought my stationary bike I use that on rainy days helps out so much to keep your legs moving and helps all muscles get strong again. I really hope I helped you out. Stay in there we are behind you 100%.
