Hi I’m 7 months post op gastric sleeve.. I started to gain weight after my tenth birthday. I loved food especially pizza and pop. When I graduated high school I wore a size 16. At 21 I weighed 175 and then I got pregnant with my first child and never saw under 200 again.. I was miserable. No energy unable to dress how I liked trapped in a body that wasn’t me. May of 2025 I stopped pop I had gotten up to 2 twelve packs of Dr Pepper a day.. I was encouraging diet and exercise to my patients while sucking down pop and doughnuts.. July of 2025 I asked for a refferal to the bariatric surgeon that works for the hospital organization I do.. my first appointment was the first Monday of August 2025. They fast track me .. I had no co morbidities other than pain from damaged knees and back due to all the weight I had gained… August 7 2025 I weighed 267 lbs… today I’m 186 lbs .. I’ve been pain free for the last two months my back and knees feel amazing. I can bend over and tie my shoes with out passing out. I can cross my legs. I can walk for and hour without stopping. Trade off to all this is loose skin limited diet and constant questioning about my weight loss journey from every one who’s ever met me… I went from a 3xl top and 24 size jeans and 3xl scrubs to medium tops size 16 jeans and large pants…

Congratulations and welcome. Your story is SO familiar. I practically stopped having relationships with my family because of their negativity and snoopiness about my weight loss. I never told anyone except my son and my best friend that I'd had surgery. My siblings are all jealous and bitter and ganged up on me, while shutting me out of their confidences.

I was really dismayed about the loose skin and saw various doctors about solutions, including surgery. You don't mention your current age but whatever it is, you have made an amazing change to your life and have a bright future. Most amazing to me is your pop consumption and how you gave it up!!! Wow!

Back to the surgical skin solution:: When I went in for a consultation a bunch of med students were invited in and claimed they'd never guess I was previously more than 100 pounds overweight. Of course they say that, but I didn't believe them for a minute. But later I was thinking about it. It's probably so much bigger a deal to us, the survivors of obesity, who feel the pain so intensely. For what it's worth, the whole skin/flab thing has really been less obvious as I've gotten older. I also put less validity into people's opinions that are based on such superficial beliefs. We truly live in judgmental times, so I have stopped listening to the crowd.

At what level do you serve in the medical profession? Your story is truly commendable. Thanks for sharing it.
