I am a first time poster but a long time lurker and I just want to give a big shout out to the people who take the time here to answer newbie questions! I feel as prepared for this process as I possibly can be all thanks to you guys. I knew what questions to ask at my appointments and what to start buying and setting aside. From Diane's magic milk to Judy's Souper Cubes, and everything else you all have suggested, I went into my classes with ideas and suggestions that were new and helpful to others. I am now scheduled for my sleeve next month (if I don't get bumped because our hospitals in the Tri Cities, WA are still slammed due to Covid) and I feel a little less overwhelmed because I knew what to expect pre-surgery for the most part, all thanks to YOU! Now comes the hard part, I know, but I feel like I have you all in my corner and you'll be here when I have questions in the next phases.

Hi Lucky! I'm so glad you have found this group helpful and now decided to join in and say hello! I hope your surgery stays on schedule. So many of us had to endure delays due to Covid and some for other reasons. Fingers crossed for you that yours doesn't change. Good luck on your journey!

I feel the exact same way 100%. This site is such a wealth of information. My surgeon asked me if I had a family member or friend who recommended the RNY procedure. I said “NO, but I’ve read lots of posts on the American Bariatrics forum. The members shared their experiences with RNY and I feel like I am better prepared because of their stories.” Honestly, this forum has given me the best information and insight. It’s my touchstone.

I am in tri cities to!!!! I had my surgery in Seattle tho! I hope everything goes well!!

How funny! I used to live upwind from Hanford, in Wenatchee. When I tell you I was a prominent antinuclear activist for many years, you may hate me! My nephew and his wife are both nuclear scientists who live and work there.

I assume you're both talking Pasco, Richland and Kennewick...

Anyone you know glow in the dark?

Oh, I had Graves' Disease. Wenatchee and South to Tri-Cities had the highest rate of thyroid cancer in the U.S. back then. There's a correlation between nuclear exposure and thyroid disease.

So I moved back to Seattle, my original home. Had my thyroid gland irradiated finally and take thyroid hormone daily. My Graves' started with a sudden weight gain and then my eyes bulged out of their sockets & felt like they had sand in them. Think Marty Feldman. He had Graves', as did Barbara Bush. The eyes have it!

Not having a thyroid gland caused weight problems and many personality changes. I spent a year crying on my front porch because I was misdiagnosed, put on the wrong meds, developed secondary problems and blah blah blah

Welcome to the nicest support group on the internet.
Yeah our WV state legislation in their infinite wisdom just passed a law allowing for nuclear energy to be introduced to our state. It previously had been banned, but now it is being touted as "clean" and "safe." Yeah right. I used to drive past Three Mile Island on my commute to graduate school. Such a clean and safe place. NOT.
