Acid reflux

It started when I was finally able to go to solids after surgery and is to the point of my throat always being a slightly sore. Anybody ever get it any have it go away or am I just dealing with wishful thinking?

I am calling the doc tomorrow as I can't access my medical chart to send her a message for some reason but I'm really over it. I never really had an issue prior to surgery other that an occasional thing if I ate the wrong food or drank to much but had a huge issue in the two week liquid diet with the protein shakes.

Now it reminds me of when I eat something that I am slightly allergic to, my throat is raw feeling as is my tongue and some times the rest of my mouth but mostly just my throat. It doesn't matter what I eat, even water does it.

I had the RNY around 18 months ago to fix various stomach issues, including severe GERD. I used to have to sleep sitting up, otherwise acid would gush up my throat and even into my ears. Since the RNY, I haven’t had even 1 instance of GERD. So even though I was terrified at the time, it was the right decision. And it’s also nice being skinny! Lol

I hate not having access to My Chart. So I left a message with the nurse who clearly didn't speak to either my doc or surgeon before calling back. Pretty likely she didn't even look at my chart before calling because her response was you can always double your prescription for a week and see if that helps....

I told her I already take my meds twice a day and am only authorized for 3 months at which time I was told to stop...thats about 2 weeks from now. After that she said "oh let me run it by your doc and surgeon and see what they have to say." Duh thats what you were supposed to do in the first place.

I absolutely HATE when the nurse calls back without listening the message carefully and looking at the chart. So frustrating!

My husband - three of my daughters - and I all have reflux. My daughter that had sleeve surgery has it - I was told by my surgical team that some people who have get the sleeve end up with reflux or it gets worse once they have the surgery. When my husband has an episode he drinks milk - he says it cools off his throat then he eat a couple of pieces of hard candy.

I can do the hard candy - but so not drinking milk! I really hope you get this figured out sooner rather than later.

Finally got a call back. Plan for now is to double the medication to 40mg 2x daily and doing another med up to 4x daily as needed to help coat things. If this doesn't help of fix things while still giving things time to adjust and figure things out we will look at possibly either doing x-rays or endoscopy later down the road to do a deeper look.

Pathology results after surgery did show that I did have some signs of having acid issues but no signs of any ulcers. The doc stated that everything looked normal per what they see for most obese clients that come in for surgery.

As for milk....gross. never cared for it before surgery...hate it now.

If there is one thing that is making me regret surgery this is it. The medication has stopped the pain in my throat but my chest still hurts and I'm not feeling that great. I know it's pretty much only been a day so it needs more time but between my chest hurting with burning and pressure and hiccups like a baby I really don't even want to eat because I feel like eatting just stirs it right back up once I finally get it slightly settled.
