Bariatric Ostomates?

I'm just wondering if there are other bariatric ostomates on this site. If so, I would love to hear about your experiences. (For any muggles who don't know that word, an ostomate is a person living with an ostomy. More people have heard of ileostomies and colostomies for fecal matter. I have a urostomy for urine. Ostomy + mate[as in friend] = Ostomate.)

I am an (almost -fingers crossed) 5-year bladder cancer survivor with a urostomy, and I'm pre-op for a gastric sleeve. If all goes according to plan, I'll have my surgery around the holidays.

I'm already planning and have discussed with my doc at the first visit about my ostomy. Fortunately, he has experience working with ostomates and is going to pre-emptively order IV hydration post-op. I will be looking up information to share with my trainer when I get to that point and have already discussed concerns about that with my doc. I have a ton of low-cal electrolyte beverages already for my hydration purposes and will be looking into others.

I am president of my local ostomy support group and am active with the national office. Hence, I have tons of ostomy-specific resources, but I'm looking to hear more from others about what their personal experiences have been.

I was really hesitant to take this route, and it took me a long time to get here, so I'm just trying to go into things educated and aware so I know what issues to look for ahead of time.

Thanks in advance for sharing.
