Bread

I am about 10 weeks post op, and have been enjoying all my high protein foods. My carbs are usually fruit or starchy vegetables. I’ve had very little rice, bread or pasta, and for now, for the most part, i am not missing them.
Yesterday, while helping with a busy fund raising event with an irish theme, i had a piece of irish soda bread… (a slightly sweet bread with raisins). i nibbled little bites over a couple hour span while working on set up, so it never bothered my new tummy…
Today i am feeling totally exhausted. I don’t know if this is due to a hectic 16 hour day, or the inflammatory ingredients in the bread, or both…
Does anyone know how long it takes for the ingredients in bread to clear your system?

I am ten years post-op and bread was my one love. I loved all kinds of bread starting with bagels in the morning followed with a good hoagie roll at lunch and warm rolls at dinner. But bread was the first thing to go because every time I ate it, I got very sick. don’t eat bread anymore because my system can’t handle it. At first I was really sad, but because I got sick every time I ate bread and any other white starch I soon gave it up and learned to do without. Some folks do fine with bread but others don’t. You will learn what works for you as you slowly reintroduce foods back into your diet. Don’t force anything. If it makes you sick or nauseous or uncomfortable, stop and re-evaluate what you are doing. Just make sure you are getting all your nutrients. Over time that’s the most important thing. As bypass patients we struggle to get all the calcium and vitamin D that we need so make sure you are doing that. Take care and good luck.
