difficulty with food and liquids going down.

Hi my name is Carrie. I had my surgery on Oct 11,2016. According to the doctor there is a tight stitch that is causing foods and liquids to go down really slowly. This causes heartburn so bad I can only drink vitamin water zero for 2 days. I know my protein intake is not enough but nothing tastes good. I am getting to the point where the thought of another shake is making me want to gag. I am supposed to be eating purees but once I get the heartburn it is hard even to get protein from shakes or yogurt.

Will the stitch correct itself? I'm sorry you are so miserable.

Hi Carrie, welcome to the forum! I'm sorry to hear about the misery you are going through. It is VERY important that you get your adequate daily protein in (especially because of the WLS), but I completely understand that you need some variety in your diet!! You said you are on the pureed diet, have you tried mashed cottage cheese, yogurt, or strained creamy soups yet? Just a suggestion to mix it up a little from just protein shakes. :)

Will they go back in and redo the stitch? That seems like a reasonable solution to me. I can't imagine waiting for it to stretch out by itself.

I've tried but nothing tastes good or it gives me heartburn. I actually got cottage cheese today to try. I don't normally like it but thought maybe it might not bother me.
