Dry Skin Treat

Not limited to dry skin. Oily skin can benefit from this, too.

Supplies

a quality oil (NO mineral oil) and a dry fluffy towel

some of my favorite oils are:

Coconut Oil

Body Beautiful Massage Oil, Natura Magic, Olivae Skin Lotion, available at baar.com and other locations

Natural 7 Oil (this and other similar oils are available at many beauty supplies)

Palmer's Skin Therapy Oil (widely available; Wal-Mart, etc.)

Your skin is the largest organ of your body, yet we rarely treat it with the care and respect it deserves. This treatment is suitable for everybody, male or female, any age and any skin condition (impetigo, psoriasis, etc.) EXCEPT open sores (wounds). If you have open sores or other wounds, check with your medicos first. (ALLERGIES: do you have any? Some of the above oils contain peanut oil, an allergan for many.)

Take a warm shower. Rinse well. No soap residue, please.

A hot shower, you say? You wouldn't! A hot shower doesn't get you any cleaner. It does raise your gas or electric bill (whatever your hot water source). It increases your heart rate. It dries your skin and hair terribly.

When you're through with your shower, take whatever oil you've selected and spread it lovingly all over your wet body. Take your time. Massage it into every nook and cranny. Put it on your face, behind your ears, in between your toes, in your armpits. Massage it into your fingernails and toenails. Need help reaching your back? Put a plastic bag over the head of your bath brush, secure with a rubber band. Makes a great applicator for your back and other hard to reach places.

When you're sure you've not missed a single square inch of skin, find a place to be comfortable for a few minutes; side of the tub, shower chair, toilet seat, whatever. Now, be quiet for a little while, at least five minutes. You don't need anything to read or anything else to do. Just close your eyes and be still.

At the end of your quiet time, however long it is -- the longer it is, the more soothing, nourishing oil your skin will absorb -- dry yourself thoroughly with your towel. Whatever oil was not absorbed by your skin will be removed by the towel.

(Do you have small children? Try this with them. Even if they won't sit still with hugs or rocking and singing, just the time it takes to apply the oil and rub it off will make their skin happy. And they will love the special attention.)
