Dull ache on upper right quadrant of my abdomin

I've read that this could be constipation, gall stones, fatty liver, twisted intestines, ulcers, etc.

I had a sonogram of just about everything done about 10 days ago and my PCP told me I have some fat in my liver and I do have gall stones, but doesn't think either is the problem. Suggested I wait until I heal more from surger and then he'll reassess. In the mean time I still have this ache. It's more intense after I've eaten something that isn't smooth in consistancy or is a new item being added to my diet.

I'm having bloodwork done to check my liver and then will have a follow up appointment.

Has anyone ever been checked for twisted intestines? I'm certain if I bring that up I'll get some push back on testing, but after reading about it I'd really like someone to confirm that's not the case just to put my mind at ease.

I read up on gall stones and understand there is a medication that could have been prescribed to help prevent them, but wasn't. I'm rather ticked about that. Has anyone else had trouble with gall stones post-op?

Although I don't have gall stones (yet) it is a common side effect from rapid weight loss. Surgeon's remove the gall bladder during the gastric bypass surgery if it has stones. I don't know how long it takes for gall stones to form after WLS but I'm guessing it takes longer than the time since you had your surgery. I had a C scan in June 2011 due to increasing pain in my abdomen and lower intestines over the course of a year. Although my gall bladder looked OK I did have a very large umbilical hernia (large bowel) which required in patient surgery to repair. My PCP and the internal medicine doctor I also saw were surprised at the diagnosis since both were thinking the pain was due to diverticulosis, kidney stones or an inflammed appendix. When I had my consult with the surgeon she said hernias such as mine are extremely difficult to diagnose without a scan.

I'm glad you mentioned there is a preventative med for gall stones. I'm going to ask my surgeon if he will prescribe this for me. I'm all for prevention especially if it will keep me from having another surgery. Make sure you let everyone here at the forum how things work out for you. Best wishes for a speedy diagnosis and recovery.
