EGD WHAAATTTT????

Hi,
My name is Victoria and I'm having an EGD done this Friday. I've never had one, any words of advice like what it's like and does it hurt? I'm super nervous.

Like Diane said - it is an easy one. Twilight and no pain after. Takes longer to be prepped than it does for the actual procedure.

My surgeon is doing mine. He said it’s really fast. It’s necessary so they can see if there is a hernia, scarring, or structural abnormality. He said the most uncomfortable part is the dry throat afterwards, but that can be said of any procedure where you’re knocked out a little.

I had one this morning. It was no biggie. Apparently I have an hernia though. Didn't know that. My throat isn't sore. I gargled for a full minute with this gross stuff first.

Was the icky stuff barium and did they then give you a swallow test before they started the EGD?

I hate barium. Not only is it gross on every level including taste, but it has no weight compared to the size of it. It's like you get a 4-ounce glass of this stuff and it's lighter than one marshmallow.

Was it a hiatal hernia they found? If that's the case, then it's really good that you are getting RYGB instead of the VSG. And I can't remember if you said they took your gallbladder yet but that's another thing they're going to end up doing I think.

Badgy, congratulations on all your progress. I know you've had a lot of ups and downs. You're going to make it and I congratulate you for doing everything you need to do to stick to it.

No it was lidocaine. Yes it was hiatal hernia. Which explains this giant rock hard stomach bloating I always have. So I can't have sleeve with hernia? Solves that dilemma of a decision.

Why would they take my gallbladder?
