Eggs

Anyone else have issues with eggs after surgery? I’m at the pureed phase, and runny scrambled eggs are encouraged because of the protein. I’ve tried 3 separate times now, and each time I just don’t feel well after eating them. I don’t have the same feeling with any other food. I never had a problem with them before, so I’m not sure why they’re disagreeing with me now. I’m also eating slowly and chewing very well.

Can't say I have, in fact find them very easy to eat. But I will tell you that everyone is different and sometimes on different days we are different too! That's a shame that you don't do well after eating eggs, sounds like you have given it a good try. It may eventually change though so maybe try again in another month.

I read on another forum that quite a few people have issues with eggs towards the beginning, but they are able to eat them later on. I’m still going to reach out to my dietician and let her know that I’m having issues with them. Maybe she’ll have a suggestion as to when I should try again. They just feel so heavy when I eat them, and it’s about the only time I can feel my pouch.

Eggs for me are not the same still. The taste was funny and did not sit well with me. Last week I got 1 hard boil egg down.So I may just eat them like that, I also have a problem with any dry Meat. So you are not alone. Hood luck.

That's a good idea. When I was first eating meat I would make sure I had a little bit of gravy on it to moisten it or if it was cold chicken, a little mayo. I think moist proteins in the beginning help a lot.

I was told to start with hard boiled eggs first as they are the most tolerated and then move to scrabbled and then on up. I never had a problem with eggs but even today I make my scrambled eggs in the microwave as it prevents any crispy parts and no excess grease. My stomach really does not do well with any fats of any sort. The microwave keeps them moist with no added fat

Just got off the phone with my dietician and she said to stop eggs for a while. They just added eggs back into the dietary book, but apparently my surgeon is “hard core against eggs for gastric bypass patients” in the beginning LOL Wish I would have known that. She said egg salad wouldn’t really be good right now because the added fat, while moistening the eggs, might cause other digestive issues. I also asked her about my rapid weight loss, and if I should reach out to my endocrinologist to have my thyroid levels evaluated because I’m on a very high dose of levothyroxine, and she said it definitely wouldn’t hurt.

Wow, so interesting about the eggs. I always heard that a little bit of healthy good for you fats help with vitamin absorption. Anyway, I am glad you called to discuss it with your dietician.

My only issue with eggs is EWWWWWW! I've never been an egg eater. I do however make amazing egg salad. I ate that during the pureed phase. Eggs was one of the first foods suggested due to the protein. It may be one of those foods you need to circle back around to the farther in the process you get! Best of luck!

What's in your amazing egg salad? I am always looking for a new recipe

Hi Missy!

My amazing egg salad is very simple.

6 fresh free range eggs - they should be room temperature
4 cups of cold water - bring to a full rolling boil
Add 1 tps of white vinegar to boiling water
Add 1 TBS of sea salt to water - remove water from stove top
Add eggs - 1 at time to pot - cover and let them sit for 15 minutes - 10 minutes for softer/runnier eggs
Remove eggs to ice bath to stop the cooking process - let them sit for 5 minutes
Peel eggs
Put eggs in chopper - add 1 or 2 TBS of butter - add 1/2 tsp white vinegar or more based on your tastes - chop eggs and butter to a fine consistency
Place eggs in bowl
Add mayo 1 TBS until you get the taste you like - I use 1/4 mayo for 5-6 eggs
Add sea salt/kosher salt/Himalayan pink salt/table salt - which ever salt you prefer.

Eat on bread/toast/crackers. I usually eat about 4 club crackers with mine. This makes either 6 or 3 servings. The Nutritional information is based on 6 servings.
