Well, My name is Christa and I am new here and i have been on my journey for almost eight months and I should be getting a surgery date real soon.
I am just looking to meet new people who are doing or have already had this done to get a better look on things i have been going through this alone well besides my significant other, my family is non supportive well atleast it feels that way.... anyway looking forward to talking to new people......

Hi Christa, my name is Pat. Welcome to the forum. I think you will be very pleased with the amount of support you will find here. My RNY is scheduled for 2/27, just 4 short days away. I live alone and I am physically disabled so it's been a little bit of a struggle for me making it to all of my appointments. I do have 3 nieces who live within a few miles of me and 2 of them have been going grocery shopping and running errands for me the last 5 or 6 weeks so that is a huge help. I fell getting into my car last month and have only been out of the house for one medical appointment since then. I have also made many on line friends in this forum who have been supportive. I also talk on the phone to one of the on line members here who has been super supportive. Since I have not been able to go to a live support group meeting yet this forum is a Godsend for me. Make sure you come back here and let us know how you are doing on your journey.

Hi Pat, you are obviously a strong person considering your situation and your still where you need to be, Good luck also on your upcoming surgery please keep us informes on your progress and success... I can't wait for mine we actually submit next week (march 1st) and then i guess it's just a waiting game from there not really sure, so i am really looking forward to talking with people who are/have been through this i mean i have been to the support groups but havent really had a chance to converse with many people so i am hoping to meet people who can give me some input and ideas on what the near future holds.....

Hi Christa, You are on your way to a wonderful journey, I began almost two years ago, within a month I was off of my high blood pressure and cholesteral meds and today I feel great but still have 20 lbs or so to get to my goal weight. Although everyones personal experience to WLS is different most people have a reaction (dumping syndrom) to starches and surgars, I knew within 3 minutes of eating something what didn't agree with me, they are pasta, white bread and surgary foods, I also experience dumping if I eat to fast. Other things that you may experience is that you will have to get used to smaller portions of food, I use a small salad plate for my meals because when I use a dinner plate it holds way to much food. One thing I know we all have to do is go on a liquid diet pre surgery, that helps to shrink the liver making surgery go much faster and easier for the surgeons, which wasn't to bad, you will also go on a clear liquid diet 24 hours before surgery and drink some medicine to help evacute the intestinal tract so there is nothing in the stomach to cause any problems. You have lost 20 lbs so far and that is a great start, let us know how your visit on the 1st, if it has been 8 months so far hopefully your surgery date wont be to far away. Good luck. Tom
