Frustrated

I’m almost three weeks post op, down 22 pounds. I am not complaining about that at all. If the past few days I have stayed the same and today I was up two pounds! How is this possible? I am taking in between 400-500 calories per day, staying active, and drinking 64 ounces of water. I understand staying the same for a few days but to go up?! Is this normal?

Hi Renee,

First things first, congrats on the huge 3 week weight loss! That's incredible, great work. :)

Yes, your body will have normal fluctuations day-to-day. My advice is to only weigh yourself weekly. You'll get way better picture of how much weight you've actually lost (as opposed to water weight, etc.). I know it's hard but some doctors only advise monthly weigh ins so this is my compromise with that. ;)

I guess I was so used to seeing the scale go down I wasn’t expecting to see it go up. But what you said makes a lot of sense, I’ll try to weigh myself only once a week, it’s just difficult lol
Brenda has mentioned before that she puts her scale on a shelf and only brings it out on Friday's to do her weigh in. I have adopted that as well because it is just too tempting in the mornings when you see the scale on the floor just waiting to be stepped on. We are so focused on our weight that we want that validation that our hard work is paying off. But we just don't need that specific validation daily. Another thing you can do to help with seeing how far you come is make sure you do your measurements. l do mine once a month so as not to go to wild with those either, lol. And watch for the non-scale victories. I have recently started jogging and the last time that happened was in jr high! I have also realized that when sitting in a chair, I can actually cross my legs, not just lay one over the other. Little things (or in my mind they are BIG things) like that give me an even better feeling than the number I see on the scale. Keep up the hard work and you will do great!

I am going to put my scale away for a week and try to focus on the non scale related successes, since I have already had a few! I am getting way too focused on the numbers on the scale so I definitely need to take a step back. Reading all of this feedback is very helpful, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH, it makes me feel better that this is normal. I tend to immediately go into "well after all that it's not working" thinking because of a small weight fluctuation, and I lose focus of all the success I have had.

I brought a scale but can’t use it right now. It stats @ 280. I’m still in the 300 range. My plan is to only weigh every 2 weeks. I’m going to start working out and I know once you start working out you will weigh heavier sometimes
I have to giggle at Missdarmitage. I was setting watching tv the other night, and realized my legs were crossed.
I have not been able to do that in years. It is the small things that count.

I forgot to congratulate you on jogging!!! That's freaking amazing lady. :)

Hehe yeah, I forgot to mention that I have to "hide" the scale on myself. Like missdarmitage, it's too tempting if it's right there calling me. ;)
