Gastric sleeve in one week

Been reading the posts and seems some people do well and some struggle. I have gastric sleeve surgery planned for one week from today. I fully intend to follow the doctor’s orders and hope I will do ok. I’m 65 and in good health but can’t seem to lose the weight. I’m beginning to get a little nervous. Just need some encouragement. Need to lose 75 pounds. Any encouragement is appreciated!

You can totally do this and be successful! Everyone has a slightly different journey and response to the surgery, but the vast majority are successful to very successful. You'll do well if you stick to the plan and build new habits for life. Good luck!!

Thank you both for such positive replies. My main goal at my age is to be healthy so I can be around to watch my grandchildren grow up. I was feeling apprehensive since last year was the first surgery I had ever had. I’m ready to feel healthier to feel good about myself. Thanks again.

I am 66 and had my sleeve surgery June 25th. So far I have lost 90 lbs which includes the pre-surgery diet I was on Starting in February. My surgery was delayed because of Covid so I had more time to work on losing weight before surgery. My reasons for surgery was that the older I get the harder it is to lug around extra weight not to mention other complications it can create. It kept me focused to remember that.

This week will probably go fast for you, keep focusing on the good reasons you are having the surgery. I wish you all the best and hope you will update us on how you are doing. :)

Hi and welcome to the group. I think most people here agree that deciding to have the surgery was a great decision. Like life, it does come with the occasional struggle. I know most in here have said, even while struggling, that we made a great decision and would do it again and again. You'll feel the same way, I'm sure. Good luck for a speedy recovery. Keep us posted.

Hi there GGG - welcome to the group!

Deciding to have the surgery is step towards a new lease on life - a healthier you.

I had RNY Gastric Bypass 1/22/2020 - I've lost 85 pounds - according to the doctors scale yesterday. Some people have issues some don't. It truly varies.

Follow your doctors/surgical teams plan. It should make things easier.

I truly wish you the best on this new life altering journey! Hold on - it's a wild ride! ;)

I just joined this group but I just wanted to say, Good For You! It took me a long time to decide to have the gastric sleeve surgery. I had lost 184 pounds over two years ago but could not keep it off. Now my knees and back are suffering from the fast weight gain currently so after a lot of soul searching I decided I want to save my life of misery and disease so this is the route I have decided to take.
I felt like a failure having to decide to do this surgery after loosing so much weight before but, I had to come to realization that its for my health not so much my outward appearance now. Joining this group is my first step in making this life change. Pray for me.

Good for you DRowe for taking the first step. I had lapband surgery 9 years ago and lost 80 lbs. I started to have trouble with the lapband and they took all the restriction our of it and I gained back almost all of the weight I lost. So I totally understand that feeling of failing, that was how I felt too. But the older I get the harder it is to have extra weight and that is why I decided to have gastric sleeve surgery. My cardio doc and gen practitioner both said how much better the sleeve was and they recommended it. So now I believe I am in a better mindset and I'm determined to have this work. Prayers for us both!! :)

Hi DRowe - welcome to the group!I'm sorry that you've had the issues you've had - but now you've done the hard part - deciding to do the surgery again for healthier you! That's awesome! Jorunaling has been a huge part of my weight loss journey. I write/journal every day. I also have something I can read to see when I was struggling - and what I was struggling with - it's been very beneficial to my personal journey. You may want to try it - I found it very therapeutic and revealing!

I know there are a couple of people that have had revisions of their surgeries - lap band to sleeve to bypass. I'm sure if you post a thread with something like - lap band to sleeve to bypass - they would respond to the post. You may also want to go through the threads - read them. There is a lot of great information in there!

I truly wish the best of luck with your new lease on life - a healthier you journey!

You're way as head of the curve - you know what it's all about! You CAN do this! You GOT this!
