Getting the 64oz in

I wasn't that thirsty the first couple of days after my surgery but the longer I went I just got used to drinking. It will get easier. I got I would drink a whole glass of water in the morning when I was taking my vitamins and meds then wait a bit and do a protein shake which also counts towards your liquids then I would have a glass of water with lunch protein shake and the same with supper as well. I also did jello which counts towards your liquids. I got some Stur liquid drink mix to use in my water as well. I got it threw Walmart website. It has Stevia in it vs aspertame. Hope this helps you!

I just posted about this lol SHOT GLASSES! My team suggested an ounce every 15 minutes (except 30min before/after meals) in the beginning. I had a hard time when a bottle or glass was in front of me, as it seemed like I would never finish. But I could do an ounce. Also, I like my water super cold, so it had the added benefit of making me get up to get new water every 15 minutes.

I listened to a nutritionist and she said it is not necessary to get 64 oz of water a day. She said all liquids count and that 40 oz is plenty. ???
This is probably one of the most debated topics here. My surgeon said all liquid counts towards the 64 oz in the beginning, but now I’m making sure to get in 64 oz of water on top of any other liquid. It’s definitely a big, “do what your doctors office says”, type of situation.

I never cared for water for as long as I can remember. Mom made koolaid for us as kids. I never thought of that as water. She never put the full sugar in so it wasn’t overly sweet. After I started working I would only drink soda. Weaning myself off soda was a long and tedious journey. When I moved to the area I am at now I couldn’t stand the water here out of the faucet. After I bought my house I put a water purification system in. I don’t have to buy bottles and my ice is clear and clean. For me the thing that got me drinking water was ice the water has to be cold. I have a 30 oz thermal cup that keeps ice in it over night. Brand name is mountain trail or mountain ozark from walmart. My glass goes everywhere. We do buy vitanourish water with b vitamins in it to supplement our reg water intake. It helps. Oh yeah the bariatric team I have is very anti straw. I think because plastic straws can split and cause you to drink air that irritates the stomach. I have metal straw with plastic tip so no air leaks.

I love Pure, Clean Water. I drink it all day long. I always have a gallon of water sitting next to me and I fill up my smaller bottle until the gallon is gone.

But I cannot drink Municipal Water. That's the water that comes out of your faucet. It has too much lead Content and I am allergic to lead and apparently pretty severely. I feel sick all over my body sick and achy and awful if I drink water out of the faucet.

So, it's an expensive habit, but I drink Bottled water all the time. I drink the stuff you get from the grocery store in the two and a half gallon Size containers. I know that it is different than water out of the hose for the tap because I can tell by the taste and also I can tell by what it does to my body or doesn't do to my body. I even Bring along my own water to Dinner at a restaurant instead of drinking what they put on the table. I think that is a Particularly vile Form of water, the stuff you get in restaurants. If you've ever worked in a restaurant you can see that Sanitary conditions are not always maintained. And I would never drink ice from an ice machine.

I don't know if drinking water so selectively has had a positive effect on my life but I think it has. And just the fact that I love water as a beverage more than any other beverage Sort of indicates that my body is really appreciating what I am doing for it.

On the other hand here's a tip from Shape magazine:
Dianne,
I was also drinking bottled water, afraid of the city water too. My very considerate sister got me a Berkey system. It seems like a large still to me, but the water passes through some huge filters and tastes so clean. The thing was is expensive, but buying the plastic is too.
Just an idea to put on the back burner. I admit I have converted and am enjoying the Berkey.

I'm much like Roni and sharontx - purified water is the way to go. When I'm at home, I use the purified water to make clear protein drinks (Nectar). But, when I'm at work, I drink Smartwater in 20 oz bottles. I also use Gatorade Zero to-go packets. I mis one in a 20 oz bottle of water and it tastes exactly like regular Gatorade.
Honestly, Gatorade Zero was pretty much the only thing I could drink right after surgery. It seemed to be easier to get down than plain water for whatever reason. Luckily, that was short lived and I have no trouble drinking water or anything else ☺️
