Glad to Be Here

Hi, I am finally able to start my journey to health. My procedure will be in either the end of November or the beginning of December 2021. Not sure what to do or how to do it but, with the support of this group, I should be okay. Would love to hear from people who have been where I am and have made it through to the other side.

Hi Andi, welcome! It's great that you joined early in the process as there is so much information here. I'm a year out from VSG and have lost 135 lbs. I am still trying to lose more but have been in a holding pattern for a while. Feel free to ask any questions. Do you know which surgery you want to go for?

My doctor, due to my Type 2 Diabetes, Sleep Apnea, and Silent Acid Reflux he's going to do the Sleeve first. If the reflux gets worse, and can't be handled by medicine, then he can do a full bypass and the insurance won't give him a problem about it. If he does the full first, he has no recourse with the insurance company. Thank you for the welcome. My doctor really believes that the surgery will get rid of all my problems with a good, normal weight being a benefit.

I wish you all the best!!

Welcome I came to the group before my procedure. I had RNY, gastric bypass. I found a ton of information here and I got to see who the regulars were. You will find amazing stories and really amazing people here and very knowledgeable people too. I had my surgery feb 15 2021 and I am still fairly new, and I am down 50 pounds since surgery. My story is at”looking for a mentor/support”. Here you will learn so much and what questions to talk to your doctor about. My bariatric team from university of IA recommends the bypass for those who have acid reflux. My acid reflux is a side effect of my respiratory meds and will be lifelong. It took me close to three years before deciding to have the surgery and that was like a year after I learned about bypass. Not to sound cruel or mean but a couple of coworkers from my last employment position; one had lap-band and the other sleeve, both had found work arounds and regained significant weight. That was my reason for not wanting weight loss surgery to begin with. The best advice is ask questions of your bariatric team, keep a note card. May your journey be safe and healthy.
