Grits

Do you have a recipe for the pie? That sounds delicious!

Hi Amy -

Yes I have the recipe - feel free to tweak it based on your particular tastes. I made this A LOT before WLS -

Use any good baking apples - I use granny smith - I like a firm apple to bake.

3 large baking apples - cut in half and scoop out the core
4 tbs of butter - I use butter flavored spray
1/4 cup sugar - I use splenda or equal or honey
1 tps ground cinnamon - I'm allergic to cinnamon so I use nutmeg - you can add whatever spices you like
2/3 cup of Old fashion rolled oats
2 full sheet graham crackers - 8 single squares
1 - 2 scoops of caramel protein powder
2 - 3 ounces sugar free caramel flavored syrup

Preheat oven to 350*
Place a baking mat or spray non-stick cooking spray onto baking sheet
Cut thin sliced into apple halves - careful not to cut all the way through - put on baking sheet
Brush 2 tbs of butter on to the apple halves - I use butter flavored spray - sprinkle with sugar - or whatever you want to use for sweetening the apples
Put apples in the oven for about 25 minutes - they should be soft and somewhat
caramelized
Remove from the oven
Mix sugar/sweetener - protein powder - spices - oatmeal - graham crackers (crushed) - spoon inside the apple slits
Put back in oven and bake another 10 minutes
Remove from oven serve warm - drizzle flavored syrup and eat!

You can also add a scoop of ice cream.

This makes 6 servings:
Calories - 162
Protein - 18 g - if you don't use protein powder - it has 3 g of protein
Carbs - 21 g
Fiber - 3 g
Sodium - 167 g
Sugar - 12 g

It really hits the sweet spot if your craving sweets without having all the calories in a pie.
