Had a set back :(

Hello I'm having a set back, last night after I showered I noticed one of my incisions was red at one end and had liquid coming out of it, it was clear and sometimes yellow, I called my surgeon and he said it was probably fluid below the stitches and will drain out and to keep it clean and dry with gauze, has anyone ever had this, I'm 38 days out from when I had my surgery, I'm worried?

Hey Susie,

I have not experienced that, as yet. I'm 21 days out of surgery, but you did the right thing by calling your surgeon. If he is not overly concerned, in that he didn't have you come in immediately, I would say that this is not an uncommon occurrence. Keep an eye on it, if it doesn't improve, then definitely call back. Keep us posted.

Susie q,

Definitely if the redness gets bigger in size or if the drainage increases in amount you will need to call and probably see your surgeon. Otherwise it will probably heal on its own.

Susie-I had that issue but only for a short while after surgery. The incision that I had drainage with was the one that had the drain in it. Although the drain was removed in the hospital on the day I was discharged there was still a lot of fluid that was coming out of the incision. I had to tend to it for 7 or 8 days before it stopped draining and the fluid was exactly as you described. I'm thinking you are going through the same thing but maybe yours has been there all along and has just started draining because of pressure build up. Just keep your eye on it and call the surgeon again if you notice any swelling or bad smell coming from the fluid.

Thanks everyone, I will keep you posted, the leak seems to have slowed down, there's no Oder at all and no soreness , I never had a drain tube after surgery so I panicked due o I'm diabetic, I always fear not healing good and having problems, I will keep you posted I go see my surgeon wednesday I will let you know, thanks again:rolleyes:

Mine did that about two weeks after surgery. I went in and it was an inside stitch that tries to work its way out. They lanced mine and took the stitch out and stitch the outside back up. It healed up right away. Probably nothing to worry about.
