Heartburn

Hey everyone I feel like I’ve had heartburn for two days now. So uncomfortable I haven’t eaten today. Can I take anything for it ??
My surgery was March 9th 2021

I believe you had the sleeve, yes? Are you taking omeprazole? If not, you should ask for a prescription or get something OTC. You should ask your doc if there is something you can take to help more immediately.

Are you experiencing it all day long or is it worse at certain times of the day, or at night? How long after you eat to you experience acid? Is it worse after certain foods than others.

Stay in close contact with your doctor. About 25% of people who get the sleeve can develop GERD, so it's something to watch closely and it needs to be addressed quickly.

Follow up with the doc. My acid issues came on pretty quick and needed increased meds to keep it under control. It got to the point of raw throat and painful swallowing. One thing I didn't realize was that frequent hiccups were a sign of acid reflux and had frequent hiccups. Once medicated they dropped significantly.

All this assuming you are far enough out that the pain wouldn't be from any potential damage of the tube.

And I agree with Wazz some people will develop acid reflux post surgery even if they didn't have it before.

I had terrible heartburn right after surgery. I was taking the 20 mg of omeprazole daily. But at night it was really bad... waking me up all night. I was prescribed famotidine (Pepsid) to take before bed. It worked wonders. Took the Pepsid for 30 days. Now I’m just on the omeprazole in the mornings. And I should be going off that as well next week at my 3 month post op check-up. Oh & I should add that prior to surgery I would occasionally have mild reflux. Nothing that 2 Tums couldn’t cure.
