Hello my name is Melissa I had bariatric surgery back in October and all is going well - I am struggling a little bit with food choices. Trying to consume enough proteins. Was wondering if anyone could offer some suggestions on different recipes. Trying not to get bored with chicken and eggs. Also really glad I am losing weight and close to my goal weight but am concerns on how I stop losing and able to maintain, Maybe I am over thinking things - just want to stay healthy and feeling good.

Morning - thank you for the information. I also take all the multivitamins you noted - I go in a couple of weeks for my first blood work testing. I will look for the mailman powder.

I am getting to attend my first informational meeting next week and beginning the process. My biggest concern I think overall is the psychological component of letting go certain food behaviors. Although when I weigh a cheeseburger against my diabetes and possible stroke or heart attack, its a no brainer. Do those who have had the surgery go to support groups? How do you get out of your own mind?

That is what the support group is for and you can go to support groups. I have not had my surgery just yet. But I have been researching everything like crazy since I am going to have my surgery in the next month or so. Mind over matter at times and you have to remember why you are doing it, Kmrose. And Mamastickle if you need some new recipes ask the nutritionist what they suggest. I know the same food gets boring when you constantly eating the same thing all the time. Poor me after the surgery I will not be able to eat the tacos I a make for my boys. I stick to a strict diet now but ground turkey tacos became the best replacement for them. But hey I am willing to make the change for the better health for myself.

DianeSeattle- I love reading your responses! You put so much into them. I loved it when you said that you have the baby spoon and fork! I do that, too. I got small 2oz. And 4 oz. Baby food storage containers so I went one step further...I bought the child- sized divided portion plate, complete with little food portion pictures plus the kiddie-sized spoon and fork. It slos me down and keeps me on track.

I'm new on here. I was hoping to get info on this surgery. I need to decide which one to get. The sleeve or the bypass. My biggest concern is what to eat and how to prepare it. I've not really ever ate veggies or fruit I like a couple of things. But most things I haven't really ever tried and have no idea where to begin. I'm a steak and potatoes girl. And I really don't like beans or even green beans. I think it's mostly the texture . Should I try things before the surgery or just wait until after surgery?

If you are serious about it only you can choose the surgery you have. Make pro con list for both and look for the one that will go best for you. I choose bypass because I have alot of weight to lose. When you choose a surgery then we can help a little more. Because even though the surgeries are for the same thing. There are some differences.

Diane you hit it on the head. I did the high protein and low carb diet since 2015 until just the other day. The portions was out of whack but I have learned control and I am now on the pre-op diet. This is not easy at all. When you get to the point I am at you can not have that food at all. It is all liquid. It is all your mind set. You have to know what you are giving up. You will be giving up soda, caffine, anything starchy like potatoes, pasta, and bread. It will take you awhile to get aproved for it but you have to be willing to give stuff up. I have and it has taken me years to give up most of this. But I have given up so much. But I would never regret it. From 736 down to 573 without surgery is a good thing. You have to prove you can handle and live with the new diet.
