Hello all!

Hello I’m excited to have found this wonderful resource. I have my EGD scheduled for June 5 and looks like surgery will be last week of June or first week of July. Which surgery you ask? Good question because I’m still undecided. I’ve been researching for a long time and still haven’t made up my mind. A little about me: I’m a nurse and work in Utilization Management for a health insurance company. That means I review medical requests including Bariatric surgeries. Even with some insider knowledge I still can’t decide. I vacillate between RYGB and VSG. I am so glad I can read about experiences on this forum. Thank you for all who share their journeys to help those of us beginning ours!

Welcome to the group!! You've found a great spot for information. The members are great and share their knowledge. After reading through posts, if you still have a question or questions, just ask and one or more of our members will answer you. Me, I was originally scheduled for surgery, VSG in March. I had a Dr's appt on the Monday before it and on that day I got a call that my appt with the Dr. (surgeon) was cancelled and so was my surgery due to the Hospital cancelling all elective surgeries due to the Covid 19 pandemic. At the time, I had all my various Dr visits and tests completed and I was extremely disappointed. I had no idea of how severe this virus was going to be. I am from NJ and our state got hit very bad. I was rescheduled for April 29 and that too was cancelled. Finally, last week our Governor opened up Elective Surgeries again. I could have been scheduled for the last week of July, but the surgeon was going on vacation for two weeks in August. I decided to have my surgery in August when he comes back. Hopefully, the third time will be a charm. I had completed 6 days of my pre-surgery diet and it went quite well so at least I know what to expect. Good luck to you.

Welcome! I began my journey in January, and will probably have my procedure in August or September. I was going for the sleeve at first but changed my mind to the bypass. The bypass is best for me because of preexisting reflux issues, and I am prediabetic with a couple other issues not related to weight. The choice will have to be based on your history, goals, and what you and your surgical team recommend. You’ll find a lot of great support and resources here!

Welcome!!!. Omg maybe you can answer the question that has my anxiety through the roof. If I complete all my requirements and 6 months program are the chances of denial high? I am so worried about being denied
Yes. Based on my experience with two different health insurance companies if you fulfill the requirements you should be approved. To be honest I rarely see Bariatric surgery denied unless someone didn’t have the BMI requirement or didn’t complete the weight loss program visits. My advise is have faith it will be approved. If it’s not you can always appeal the decision. Appeals can take extra time but can be very worth while. Good luck!
