I am almost 3 months in to the 6 months my insurance requires before I can have the surgery. My surgeon has recommended the gastric sleeve procedure for me. I have been heavy my entire life it seems and now I need a knee replacement surgery to alleviate consistent pain but of course my weight is a barrier to the knee replacement. I am hoping by having the gastric sleeve procedure that some of the pain will lessen as I lose the weight.
Having never had surgery in my life, at 62, I am apprehensive about the procedure and what it means for my life on the other side of the surgery. My family and friends that I have shared this with have been very supportive and are excited for the outcome and what a difference the weight loss will me for my quality of life.
My husband, while very supportive, is the one who is going to be the most effected by this and I am trying to convey to him what the impact will be for both of us. I should probably add that he is a very enthusiastic eater, not that he couldn't lose some weight himself, but has never had to deal with a weight problem like I have for so many years so has no concept of what I have gone/am going through.
Any input on the surgery itself and/or how to convey to my hubby how how lives will change would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!
