I am new on this site. I am having my surgery on October 5th. I am nervous scared and excited. I got into this condition as many others have....taking care of my seriously ill Mom for many years and suffering with depression and eating to medicate myself prior to her passing and after. I am trying to learn and prepare as much as possible before my surgery.

Is it normal to feel scared that the surgery wont work for me.

Welcome! I can’t speak for everyone but I believe self doubt is normal-especially since a lot of us have dealt with that for most of our lives. BUT you can do this!! Believing in yourself is the first step to long term success during this process. And trust me, it is a process! There will be hard times, good times, weird times, and they’re all normal. Glad you found us!

I think it's perfectly natural to worry the surgery won't work for you. For a little while after the surgery, I worried he didn't do it "right" because I had no problems getting my water in or keeping my food down, when I got to it. As if somehow everything going smoothly was wrong lol Remember, most things you worry about do not come to pass, so try to just deal with what is actually going on. Easier said than done I know.

Missy I had the same feeling because I didn’t have complications or problems. For me it was like I was always used to something going wrong that I didn’t trust what was going right.

Hi Tami. My surgery date is September 14th. I’ve been taking care of my elderly mother for the past six years. Depression and anxiety have contributed to my weight gain as well. It’s a big adjustment taking care of a parent 24/7. I’m a little anxious. But, more than anything I’m looking forward to having more energy, and fewer aches and pains. Good luck.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery. Having so much on your shoulders already, you definitely will have more energy, and your body will thank you as you relieve some of the pressures, inflammation, etc. Good luck to you.

Welcome Tami. It will work, but you'll need to work, too. You have to prepare for the staged eating, mourn the joy of pigging out, be prepared for a long fashion transition, and there might be one or two foods you can no longer digest.

But 99% of the people here are happy, if not ecstatic. Welcome to your second act. You're the STAR.
Thank you everyone. Your experiences and encouragement are very helpful.
