Hi All,
Well, I posted an introducation around August 6th. Then I forgot me darn password and it took me a while to actually find the time to sit and fix the issue. Anyway....My name is Deb and I had my RNY back in 2005. I did pretty good. I went from 329 to 188. I would have been happy at 180 (that had always been my dream weight) but my surg. said I could go to 160 if I wanted. The year following I did pretty good but then I had a regain of about 5 lbs. My surg had a fit and wanted me back on a weekly bases. I stupidly didn't go.
Then in 2007 there was a death in the family, I started a job I hated, and I broke up with someone I thought I'd marry. By 2008 I was 270. I think I was pretty average as far as the honeymoon period. I really didn't stay as strict as I should have. Now I'm over 300 and almost in the same boat all over again.
Added to that is thyroid issues, low vit D, anemia, and problems with my teeth. TAKE THAT AS A WARNING NEWBIES! Low Vit D is a preoouser for thyroid issues not to mention an indication that you're not getting enough calcium.
I just had a birthday on the 8/8 and I've vowing to get back on track. I have my yearly DEXA scan scheduled and a script for the 12 plus blood tests I need to take. I've done the Vitb12, Cal, Iron, yearly but I haven't had a good look at what my stats are.... I don't think that my pouch has really streched that much. Sometimes I can eat a lot but most times I still have to stop after half of what I used to eat prior to RNY. Soda and sweetened drinks are my curse. I also drink through meals which also is a no-no. I need to get back to my protein shakes because I think that has caused some problems as well.
I also have a bad back injury that had now made me disablied. In someways I'm grateful that I qualified because I really didn't know what I was going to do for income or to cover medications. On the other hand, I'm mad at myself because said injury is the main reason I had the surg. On an off note, does anyone else have an issue with the absorbtion of medications since getting the RNY? I find that pain medication goes through to fast so I have the doc. prescribe the same dosage but in smaller pills so I can space them. I can't really take time release stuff.
So anyone in the same boat? I know about the 5 day pouch test and I'm going to get on that once I get the medical side taken care of...even ordered my vits pre packaged for 30 days just to get back in the habit of taken so many.
Take my story as a warning if you're a newbie. Keep up on all your vitamins. Stay strict with how you eat. You will find that you can "play" with the pouch after a while and not get sick...if you're lucky you'll always get a little sick...because it's easy to develop bad habits. You really need to listen to your body and take care of it. Even dehydration can mask itself as just feeling tired....
I'm going to try and post daily once I get myself going. I'll get the blood tests done this week and I'm going to get back to the strict beginner diet starting monday. I want to try and post here as a way to keep myself on track.
