Hi everyone

HI, I am on my 3rd day of post op Sleeve surgery. My calves are sore like after a workout not sure why it feels this way. I am doing pretty good. I have been drinking constantly. It doesn't feel like I had surgery. I have been taking my probiotics, vitamins, calcium as well as my shakes and meals. In the hospital all I did was burp made it home finally passing gas. I had an accident, with a loose stool. I am hoping all of this is normal. Yesterday, I was able to walk 11,000+ steps. I was wondering is it normal to have lost weight and then after the Sx, the day after your weight is back up. All I do is walk and drink right now. Walk and drink. Does anyone have any advice for me about anything regarding this Sx? if you do let me know. Thank you.

Hi Healthy! Congrats on your surgery! Walking and drinking is exactly what you should be doing. I can still hear my doctor saying "walk, walk walk, drink, drink drink". LOL. But I haven't a clue about your calves. Are your feet swollen by any chance? I'm just wondering if you might have some edema. Maybe that is just because I had severe edema and my weight went way up before it came down. However, don't hesitate to contact your doctor if you have any questions at all. What is Sx? I couldn't figure out what that was. Oh... and I burped like crazy too!!!!

Sx means surgery. how far along are you now? how do you feel? It seems like when your waiting for results time slows down. I guess, I just want to see results right away, but I need to take it one day at a time.
Ahhh, thanks for the clarification. My surgery was June 26 and while my story is a bit more complicated than most (I developed an infection and had sepsis which kept me in the hospital for quite some time), I am feeling absolutely wonderful now! I was put through the wringer and admit that I had regrets for having the surgery during that time. My severe edema had me 40 lbs over my surgery weight and I was eating practically nothing! If I can pull through all that and feel positive about the surgery, I know you will be fine too. Just give it time.

I found it better for me to weigh in once a week. Lately every 2 weeks. Everyday was to much.

Everything you wrote seems perfectly normal.

There are a few things to keep in mind. The first 1-4 weeks, most of your weight fluctuation and/or stalls will be the result of water weight and levels of hydration as your body adjusts and heals and goes in and out of ketosis. During this time, even when your weight is up or stalled, your body is burning fat, so don't rely on good information from your scale.

If you haven't taken measurements, do that now and repeat once a month. It will often show progress when the scale does not.

Follow your plan guidelines and don't do anything extreme with diet or exercise. Once you are cleared for resistance/strength exercise, start working that into your routine to help maintain muscle mass which will help your body burn more fat than muscle. We all lose some muscle in this process, it's natural, but you want to try to maintain a fat to muscle loss ratio of around 3:1, so resistance exercise is more important than lots of cardio. You can combine resistance and cardio through some mixed HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) which is sort of the best of both worlds, in my opinion.

Be mentally prepared that stalls for days or weeks+ will probably happen several times during your journey to your goal weight. It's totally okay and perfectly normal. It doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong. As long as you make good food/nutrition choices, stay hydrated, maintain a calorie deficit and work in some resistance exercise, you will reach your goals in time. How long? It varies based on a whole lot of things from genetics, sex, muscle mass, starting weight and other physiological factors. Whatever you experience will be your "normal" so try not to compare to what you see from other people.

Best of luck in your journey!!
