How about a Pay it Forward type

Since everyone is losing weight and will be needing new clothes. Why not have a type of Pay it Forward? Someone has a lot of size 24 and now needs a size 20, maybe the clothes can start getting passed around. Just an idea.

CH-Sounds like a great idea. I've heard that some support group members have a clothes exchange after their monthly meetings. I think to take your idea a step further, perhaps each of us could post our "offerings" on a public advertising site such as Craig's List. It would save on shipping costs for people living in the same area and give us the opportunity to see the clothes first hand. We could come up with a few key search words to make the clothes exchange posts easier to find. Just a suggestion!

I could set up a Clothing Exchange section on the site. I've also been thinking about setting up a section on the site by Regions. For example, I was thinking of having a forum named Local Support. Then there would be subforums divided into the popular regions or states such as Michigan, California, Florida, New York, etc... Then inside those subforums members from that area can post information such as their local support groups, clothing exchanges, and such to make it easier to locate people in your area that you could actually meet in person or find information on local support groups, doctors, gyms, and things like that. Good Idea? Bad Idea? Or does anyone have any suggestions or comments about that?

Hello Everyone, the site caught my eye and I decided that I'd like to take a look. I'm hoping that those of us 2-3yrs out can benefit from the news, views and generally be of help. Lately I've been struggling with my meals and portions, eating snacks and thinking that I can eat what I used to, big mistake!! and certainly not one that I want to embrace! So................, I'll be reading avidly and looking out for recipes, especially lunch times, ( still find them hard) any and all suggestions will be most welcome. Regarding the clothes exchange, we hold them 2-3 times a year, and they prove to be very popular. I'm in Las Vegas by the way, been here 6 years this June. I'm from England originally and getting used to living in the desert took some getting used to, but.........., ? have to admit this sunshine is rather lovely! TTFN

hi I love your idea's and I hope things work out, it would be fun to have clothes exchange and meet people we've been talking too/ Thrifts store's were recommened at the last support meeting I went to. I love them already , getting jeans etc $4.00 since they'll get too big quickly , works for me. The thoughts of being able to get rid of "my super size clothes" will be wonderful. Keep us posted as you get the kink's worked out. Thank you for putting so much effort into these groups, greatly appreciated.

great ideas you have,. how has your day been? I finally got an appointment to see surgeon may4, then they told me I would have to wait for insurance approval. Before I was told everything is covered so hopefully this will be a short time frame and I'll be able to have my surgery in May. Been trying since Jan, and it seems like forever, I am just a wee bit anxious to begin this journey and see permenant results.

Sorry you're feeling down today. I know how it feels not to be able to get the scale moving in the right direction, which is what motivated me to have my WLS. Try as I might I just couldn't do it on my own and I remember the frustration oh so well. Right now I keep bouncing back and forth with the same 3 pounds :( Please don't give up trying. You will feel much better once you reach your goal. We can talk tonight.

HI Patti99

how are you today? rainy and cool here today. Once again I've told myself I must make better food choices today, for I totatly blew it yesterday. So I will try again today and I am determined to do 100% better. Have you tried any new receipes this week?
I hope that we as a group are able to establish the "pay it forward' thing about clothes that Kevin mentioned .
I've always just gave away my clothes to others in need and to salvation army etc, I love being a "giver" and if we as a group can swap clothes around and help each other as we go through all the clothing changes into "smaller sizes" oh those words sounds so good, I'm ready to help. I am going to my second support group next monday and I am going to ask them if there is a "pay it forward" in that group,, Doesn't hurt to ask. For there were people there who've had the surgery and lost hundreds of pounds and some still had alot more to loose ,. One of them had mentioned shopping at thrift stores because of changing sizes so much. Me I've always loved thrift stores yard sales etc.Finding plus sizes clothes is usually harder than finding the smaller sizes, But some how it always works out. I will gladly donate my larger sizes as I go down, as I am sure there are so many others whom would like to do the same.
I hope your healing and eating are going welll for you, think back of how far you've come and how bright your future is going to be. Talk to you soon,
Donna

Donna-I think shipping clothes to another state would be cost prohibitive. It's better to exchange in a "live" group setting. This way everyone has a chance to look at the clothes and even try them on. I plan on taking in my clothes to make them fit as I lose weight and to shop in thrift stores. I don't have a ton of clothes but since I haven't bought many clothes since late 2008 the clothes I wear all the time are not in the best shape.

I haven't been doing much cooking and don't feel much like eating lately so I haven't tried any of the new recipes I have found. Maybe next week I will try 1 or 2 recipes.

Look for a "Helping Hands" organization in your area or a domestic violence shelter. There are also organizations that try to provide interview clothes for those looking for work.

what part of ILLInOIS does this person live? madison county here.

I live in Peoria County. The only problem I see with doing live clothes exchanges, is that there are very few people around my area that have had surgery and we don't have a support group around here. Oh well, I hope it works out for everyone. Good luck!

Chart6283 illiniois here too
i love your idea i have held onto alot of older clothes that i plan to be in those sizes soon, i would much rather bless someone else with the clothes, i've always sent them to salvation army and given them to friends in the past. Tommorow is my surgery date and i plan to get rid of my"plus size clothes ' so i am never tempted to go back to them ever again, i believe we can all help each other out with these issues.
I am 20 mn drive from arch in st louis are you farther out?hope to chat with you soon

Hi, Donna. I held onto my plus clothes until three months out because I was dropping weight quickly and it made no sense to buy new ones when the size changes each month or three. I've gone from a 5x to a 2x in shirts and am just now picking up stuff at second-hand stores and gifting the old. Best of luck tomorrow!
