How can i drink more water?

I'm going on 7 weeks post op and I cannot drink anything!! Nothing tastes good, even the flavoring I used to put in my water before surgery. I was doing so well after surgery, then weeks 3-5 I was soooo nauseated I couldn't eat at all!!! I'm now trying food again, but I'm scared of throwing up, which I've done plenty of. I miss food so much and just want to be where I was before surgery. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't!!!

You can drink beverages with high water content, and count them toward your water goal. However, read up on the benefits of drinking water, which accelerates weight loss.

I love water and lost 35, 25, and 15 pounds in my first 90 days. I'm convinced my water consumption made that happen.

I never had a problem drinking water before surgery, could easily drink 90+ ounces a day!!! My taste is tired and nothing is appealing since after surgery. Thank you for your response.

Could you try squeezing a little lemon/lime juice in ice cold water? I keep some bottled lemon & lime juice in my fridge. Ginger might help settle your stomach. If you can stomach them, things like peppermint tea or other non-caffeinated teas should count. Try using a 2 oz shot glass or dixie cup to make it a bit easier to sip all day. Please keep trying, and please don't give up hope. Good luck!

I went through that for awhile. Tried several squirt in your water types, powders, protein infused drinks, different shakes etc. Lots had weird aftertastes even my two current fav (premier Protein, Crystal Light and Gatorade Zero). I had to cleanse myself a little bit. I did this by avoiding anything sweet and drink of choice was water with ice (had to be super cold). The ice slows you down from drinking too fast too. (or it does for me anyway.). I always had Jacks Links Jerky along in the car with me and sufficed as a meal when nothing appealed to me. (makes you crave water). Also seafood and Japanese and other Asian dishes seem to slide right down and settle nicely. (Pho soup with shrimp or Pork and a little hosen sauce was super good at this phase). I slowly added some sweets back in, sugar free pudding, sugar free popsicles, but what got me back into waters was Crystal Light peach tea flavor. I was traveling once and grabbed a couple and added them to a big 32oz water I bought at a gas station and it was just so good to me. I use it sparingly though as a treat on occasion. Gatorade zero is also a treat for me. My go to is for sure filtered ice water. I bought two Hydrate water bottles (lost one temporarily). I connects to your cell phone and will send your phone a message and also light up the bottom to remind you to drink. Though I found out quickly if you enter your current weight instead of your desired weight it feels like it's trying to drown you. I since just leave it uncharged. I love the spout, dimensions to fit any cup holder and carry it by the small strap, keeps the water near freezing for hours. It's like my safety blanket.

Also Cream of Wheat was a fallback for breakfast to keep my stomach settled early in the day. For proteins as I said, Shrimp, crab, muscles, clams etc all went down easy. Pork was the second easiest followed by med well to rare cooked beef steak. Ground beef, I still don't care for. Chicken dark meat is ok, white meat is like choking down a hairball to me. You'll probably go through phases where meat and fish has no appeal and you'll gravitate toward veggies. It's ok, make sure you drink a protein shake or more for the day to keep your protein level up. I personally still like just a romaine or spring mix for greens in my salad. Though salads are more than likely not on your diet, but stir fry veggies will be easy early on. Though I cant stand the mixes you get in a grocers freezer. Better to get a cheap vacuum sealer (mine works way better than many expensive ones I once had), buy some fresh broccoli, carrots, canned baby corn, canned water chestnuts, Mushrooms, and chop them up and sort into portion sizes and vacuum seal them so all you need is a bit of stir fry oil and a protein if you want for when you get the craving.

I’m happy to see this post!! I have been miserable I’m 4 weeks out as of 5/19 was doing good until the last week or so. I struggle to get anything in (a few bites at a time) sometimes it stays sometimes it doesn’t. Water I have the same issue, I feel like I can’t drink enough I get a few sips and I feel full. I get that horrible pain that means you’re over full, but it will only be a few sips.
I’m so completely discouraged. I don’t have a group near me so I’m hoping anyone can help me with advice.

I actually have been doing much better!! I finally found something I can drink that tastes good, Crystal Light Lemonade!!! I've even been able to tolerate more foods, baked and refried beans and also have been really enjoying the bariatric ricotta bake. I have found that cheese isn't my friend, just yet. I would strongly recommend sugar free popsicles, they were my saving grace when I was extremely nauseous and couldn't eat anything!! I also found that the Atkins protein shakes taste much better than the premier or fairlife ones. They have 1/2 the protein, but they taste good so I don't have a problem drinking more if I need to. Also, I love the light & fit greek yogurt!!! Good luck to you!!! Feel free to message me if you need someone to talk to.

I'm so sorry you're feeling discouraged! Make sure you're talking with your bariatric team. Sounds so miserable.

Protein 2.0 waters helped me in the beginning. Sometimes they might leave an aftertaste but then add ice it becomes weaker and more bearable. A water called hint has a very subtle flavor and was recommended by my bariatric team.

Fruity Water is my newest discovery from Sam's Club. Comes in a 4 flavors 6 pack case, acai grape, mandarin orange I think, lemon, and berry. Lightly flavored unlike Gatorade zero, 0 calories, really good. Sorry, no protein, but it's a nice way to get water in.
