I am soon having surgery. Not sure which one yet but my worry is I cannot take any type of opioids for pain. Tramadal is only pain reliever. Will pain be too bad that I won’t be able to handle.
just had 2 knee replacements with just the tramadal. And did. fine.

Hi Karen. Opioids make me violently nauseated, and I was worried about post-op pain because I knew they were not an option. My surgeon did a TAP block after I was under anesthesia. That + regular old Tylenol was all I needed. I had a pain-free recovery. Didn’t even experience the dreaded gas pains!

I also had a tap block then chewable Tylenol, Gabapentin and Celebrex for pain. I did take one dose of Dilaudid while in the hospital due to laparoscopic gas pain in my neck, which was all I needed. I had more issues with nausea than pain.

Everyone tolerates pain differently but I think you will be fine without opioids considering you managed knee replacements without them.
My pain was minimal, took tylenol for about 3 days and then nothing else.
