I am the wife of a gastric bypass patient. Both of us are so frustrated with the way things are going. The GI Dr recommend seeing the surgeon for a gastric stimulator as my husband has gastroparesis. The surgeon told him that the stimulator wasn't that effective and recommend the Gastric Bypass. The surgery was December 11th. He has lost over 50 pounds already, had three trips to the ER with uncontrollable nausea and lower abdominal pain. He is nauseous everyday to some degree or another. We saw the GI Dr. last week and went away feeling like he didn't hear anything we were saying. Anyone here have GB for GP? Any suggestions?

dianeseattle, thank you for your response. Every ER visit and even every admission ends with them telling us to follow up with... whoever deals with the issues. We have been told that tests should be done as an outpatient so basically when he is in the hospital it is just to try to get the nausea and pain under control. The only thing they do is a CT to make sure there is no blockage. They did check to make sre there was no leaking or ruptures or anything. Shortly after the surgery he seemed to be doing better but he has been returning to his previous state. So I guess it could still be the GP but with him eating so little food and the surgeon telling us that the food doesnt stay in the pouch very long it is disconcerting to think that the GP hasnt been helped. Thanks again for all of your suggestions.

Hi J -

Welcome to the group. I had RNY 1/22/2020. I've also had diabetic gastroparesis for what feels like a lifetime! I see my endocrinologist at least once a month right now. My diabetic specialist was the one suggested surgery to possibly help. I take zofran or phenergan every 8 hours to help with the nausea. Some days it works - some days it doesn't stay down. There are days that water makes me sick. It's a crap shoot. I've lost 30 pounds since 1/22/2020 - I'm 45 pounds from my goal weight.

The gastoparesis does seem to be getting better. As I said, I've been dealing with gastroparesis for several years. I don't believe that RNY is even close to a cure - but with the options I was given - RNY was the best choice for me. I've not had any ER trips since surgery. I do have to make sure I get enough sodium in my diet. Most days I do - the days I don't I can tell the difference.

Jchoff49, feel free to reach out if you want to talk! I hope your husband can get everything worked out for his health.
