Today is the first official day of soft food stage where I will be for 6 weeks! I went to Trader Joe's to pick up some of the favorites you all listed. Who knew I'd be this excited about refried beans! :D

Can't wait to try a scrambled egg and baked ricotta. I have to figure it all out as to how to get in all the protein now that I have more choice and am not as limited to just protein shakes. I'm sure I'll incorporate those back in, but I just can't look at one right now.

Hi Lisa - I am just entering week 6 post op - I can't tell you how excited I was for refried beans either ! I put a little ground turkey taco meat with them - Yum . another fav of mine is roasted zucchini or cauliflower with my homemade speghetti sauce - that satisfies lots of my cravings for my old food.
I toss the veggies in a little olive oil / garlic powder and parmesan cheese - roast in oven or toaster oven 400 degrees about 15 / 20 minutes.
I did notice its hard to get the protein without the shakes - I bought some protein powder on amazon - gives 8 grams of protein per teaspoon mostly tasteless I easily add to yogurt and applesauce - this week I added back in a shake every couple days to help with protein goals
interestingly enough I was talking to my nutritionist about 2 weeks ago and told her I am trying but still not making my protein (60 to 80 )and calorie goals (400 to 550) she said that is normal for 5 / 6 weeks post op - it is a goal to reach when starting soft foods - that makes it better
I still am having a hard time eating / drinking and taking all my meds and vitamins - I feel like I am full all the time and can't fit anymore in my new pouch - also normal per nutritionist . I have Kaiser - they have a great Bariatric's team !
Next week is my 6 week check up - hoping to move on to a few more food options
Good Luck to you and let me know what kinda cool things you are making - I think we all need new idea's sometime

Thank you for the helpful hints! I couldn't wait until I could add more things to my diet and now I'm staring into my frig thinking how do I do this? Right now I'm adding GenPro protein powder (30g per tiny scoop!) into everything even my new favorite: cottage cheese! (again, really? cottage cheese is a favorite? lol!) Right now I'm not tracking calories, just protein but I suppose I need to add that to my list of items to document.

What also amazes me is a serving of yogurt or applesauce is twice as much as I need. I bought some little 4oz jars on Amazon with lids that I've been portioning these things into to keep things easy. This new eating pattern is harder for my head than my body!

Ain't that the truth?!? It is amazing to look at the tiny amounts, especially in the beginning and think "that's my dinner". My favorite soft foods were slow cooked boneless, skinless chicken breast and ground chicken. Both are great for protein and soft enough to digest easily. I loved adding a 1/2 packet of Good Seasonings Zesty Italian dry salad dressing mix to my slow cooked chicken. It's flavorful and versatile, as well. It's great to hear your doing so well. Congrats!

I’m at the soft food stage and enjoying it. However, I am making an appointment with the nutritionist this week as I have been off track a bit since my dad passing. Although I’m continually losing since I can only intake small portions my choice foods are a little off track and my sweet cravings are through the roof!! Suggestions??

Shawna, I'm sorry you dad has passed, and of course your eating is impacted. I hope the nut has good info for you.

I'm feeling adrift myself with the strict restrictions eased. I feel like I'm eating too much, albeit not all at the same time. Last night I was constantly distracted by what I could eat even as late as 10:30pm! Maybe I need to need to start my eating earlier in the day?

Also, while I've been writing down everything I eat and keeping track of my protein, I have not been using a food tracking app (like Bariatistics) to track my calories. I absolutely despise tracking my food, but suspect this will be a part of my life from now on. Again, so many years on weight watchers [insert any diet plan you can think of] diets, it became almost an obsession--and not a happy one.

Can anyone tell me if I will have to do track calories the rest of my life or at some point will my calorie intake become intuitive?

Shawna, I am sorry to hear about the loss of your father. That's a big blow and I wish you strength to get through the tough times. I totally get the sweet cravings. I suggest playing around with sugar free puddings. If you buy the box and make your own, you can really get creative. I add a scoop of protein powder and use high protein milk. I have added pumpkin to the cheesecake flavor, PB Fit to the chocolate fudge, orange extract to the vanilla. You can actually use any protein shake recipe flavor and change it up to pudding. I add 2T of frozen SF cool whip to the top and I'm set.

Lisa, my cousin had the sleeve 12/19. She does not track, weight or measure anything. She says she has learned about how much she can comfortably eat and just does that. I am still tracking, weighing, measuring because that is what I am comfortable with. But even day to day what I can comfortably handle changes, so I would think that your body will tell you when you're done and you would not have to track your food for life.

I use the Baritastic App. In the beginning I used it 100%. I am almost 5 months out now and I use it about 90-95% of the time. There are days that I make recipes that are a bit hard to track the calories and protein, but I make sure I follow portion control. I may also jot down in the app what I ate and leave the calories and protein off. It doesn't happen all that often, but if I am making a favorite recipe for my husband then he is happy and I feel like I am not deprived. As for sweets, they are not a problem for me any longer. I haven't eaten a cookie since February and I use to be a cookie monster! For me the craving that is harder is cheese! So I get the low fat cheese and eat it with some really healthy crackers. Again, portion control. That was something in the past that eluded me!!
