I took all of your advice...

So I really listened to what you all had to say about calling my doctor because eating eggs was causing me pain. I was embarrassed to admit that I was cheating by eating them before the doctor told me I could, but you all made it clear that I could be causing permanent damage, and embarrassment shouldn't stop me. So I called and spoke with a nurse who spoke with the doctor who said that I should stop eating eggs immediately and go back to the liquid diet. He said I would probably know by now if I had caused any kind of damage (pain in my abdomen, not being able to keep anything down), but to keep pushing it was a stupid idea. So, as much as it pained me, I went back to my liquid diet. It has sucked, but I'm doing it. And looking back, I was an idiot. Why would I risk health issues by doing something against doctor's orders? I paid a lot of money for this surgery (insurance wouldn't cover it), so why would I risk having to pay more to deal with busted staples, not to mention the risk to my health if something had happened? I'm SO glad I posted about what I was doing on this forum, and I have you all to thank for getting me back on track. So thank you!!

And the extra good news is that starting tomorrow, I can have blended foods. Does anyone have any good recipes they can share?

when i was on pureed food at week 3 post op I liked to puree regular cans of Campbells soup - it gave me flavors that I liked and some nutrition
as you go you can puree it to different levels from pure liquid to a little lumpy....you actually feel like you ate something

I am so glad you called the doctor and also that you realized that taking a risk can really put you in danger. I'm curious, how did you cook your eggs? Down the road when you do get the okay for eggs, I suggest that you make them scrambled. Cook them low and slow and constantly stir them and they will come out very fluffy and light. And remember whatever stage you are in, eat & drink slowly. As for pureed food, if you are going to eat chicken or other meat proteins try blending with either a little broth or gravy. Also for chicken you can put in some light mayo. Having your proteins moist will help. Anything dry even if it is pureed might be a challenge at first. I use a mini food processor and it was just the right size. Good luck!

Hi K -

Glad you took the advice and talked with your surgical team. I ate egg salad, tuna salad, creamy soups, yogurt (oikos triple 0 - 15 grams of protein) and protein shakes. Best of luck on this stage of your journey.

I am so glad to hear that you called your surgical team and went back to your liquid diet. I (still) love the protein yogurt from Aldi's and pudding with a scoop of protein added to a box (I make my own so I can add flavors.) Pureed sweet potatoes (sweetened just a touch with sugar free maple syrup) and refried beans pureed with salsa were my favorite purees. Watch the spice level of the salsa if you try that. Hotter is not better during the puree phase :p
