I've been informed that after bypass surgery ibuprofen is never allowed to be taken again. Can someone tell me if this is the same for the sleeve surgery? Tylenol does not work for me at all, and I am concerned about not being able to take a pain reliever ever again since they are vital to me for one week of every month and other occasional use.

I has gastric bypass so I can't ever have ibuprofen. Sigh... This definitely is a question for your bariatric team of medical experts, NOT something to be answered on a support group forum. Best of luck finding meds that will get you through your cycle. ❤❤

My bariatric team was adamant about aspirin based pain relievers. Talk to your dr and bariatric team there my be an alternative. If you have such severe pain I would get a consult to determine if you have cysts, lesions or other problems with your feminine parts. I had endometriosis and then hysterectomy. But there are new treatments for those issues. My monthly times were awful. Doubled over in pain, heavy bleeding for week to up to two weeks, really no fun. Wishes you solutions for your concerns.

I don't know if it's a forever thing - but I know we need to try not to. I think my handbook said none for 6 months. I understand about pain though. I will say that I heard that after the surgery our periods (heavy or irregular) tend to even out and stop being so psycho - so I'm looking forward to that at least haha

Thank you. I've had heavy periods since 12 years old. Had an ovary and fibroids removed about 13 years ago, and now heading toward perimenopause. It's not easy being a woman!

I was told that even gastric sleeve patients cannot take ibuprofen unless it’s an absolute emergency and even then should be taken sparingly.

No NSAIDS can be taken whether it is sleeve or bypass. That includes aspirin, Aleve/Naproxen and Advil/Ibuprofen. One thing that I did learn is that, while you cannot take it orally, IV versions are fine. I get IV vitamin drips, and they are able to put a version in my drip that does not cause any issues.
So what can you take other than Tylenol?
That's all I can take, extra strength Tylenol. I'd been so used to Ibuprofen doing such a good job of pain relief, especially for headaches. I never thought Tylenol was that effective, but now that it is my only choice, it seems to work better. Mind over matter, I reckon lol.

Not much... Gabapentin is one that can be used as an off label Rx, but not available over the counter.
