Hello all my bariatric friends! I am new to this forum, learning how to use the site, so bare with me. I had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery on May 19, 2003. I was 29. I am 5'8 and weighed 370lbs pre-surgery, a size 36W (stores only go to 32W) and at my smallest (5 years later) I weighed 140 pounds (size 4 on me). I have the weird ability to either drop 10 pounds in a week, or gain 10 pounds in a week, not exaggerating. I am currently back up to 230lbs because of this quarantine. Anyone else? Also my teeth started jumping out of my mouth (horrible tooth decay, cavities, breaking teeth) approximately 7 years after, and I'm currently looking at dentures at 46 and 17 years post-op. In addition to that, my hair started breaking and being so dry and brittle, I have given up on long hair, ever again. I have broken 4 small bones since surgery and I NEVER had a broken bone before.
So with all these issues and problems, I gotta get back on my supplements. Obviously, I have been horrible about aftercare and nutrition. I haven't been under the best medical supervision either, since I have moved from Florida, where I had the surgery, the physician and support groups. I need to find a knowledgeable doctor who can help get me straight again. So my question is, am I alone? Any other 10+ years post-op with similar issues? How do you get back on track?
PS) I'd do it all again, in a heartbeat
