Im In Absolute Hell

It will be 3 weeks this Monday since my gastric bypass y procedure and I cant eat anymore broth or soup. I am starving so bad. I feel my stomach grumbling. If I could go back I would of never done this surgery! I wished it was reversible! I am starving and soup, broth, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, low sugar vanilla yogurt, nothing helps. My surgeon insits on 3 weeks on full liquids..I am not sure I can do this. Just want to curl in a ball go to sleep and not wake up ever...

Hang in there! I'm two weeks post op, and I get the dread of the liquid diet (2 weeks pre-op and now 2 weeks post-op). Man, I feel you! I wouldn't exactly say I'm starving, I would say I occasionally get hungry and another protein shake or greek yogurt is not sounding good. So, I opt for the pudding or some applesauce... and focusing on looking ahead. In fact, I'm researching recipes for when I move onto solid foods. I hope it gets better for you - and I agree with DianeSeattle above. This surgery, way of life may not be for everyone - but I hope you can give it a little longer and use this forum for support.

Wow i thought i was the only one who had regrets about the surgery. I had the sleeve on july 2019 and when i woke up i was in so much pain. I too started missing my usual routine with food-plus i love to chef it up for my family. But that is the thing it is your relationship and routine with food that you have to change temporarily until you go back to solids. Once you go back to solids your mood and thoughts about food should become wiser and healthier and happier.

I know this is a big lifestyle change for me and i thought to myself what is more important :being obese/morbidly obese or losing the weight and living longer/happier with confidence.

All it is is time. Give your self time to adjust, time to think about why did i get the surgery? Where do you see yourself in a few weeks/months?
Dont sabotage your mind and body after the surgery..aim for a small goal...

I found a great recipe for your next stage. Let me ask you two questions. Would you like to have some mashed potatoes? Would you like to have gravy on those mashed potatoes? Well guess what you can have those on the semi soft or pureed food stage.

Go to the store and buy a turkey breast or a couple turkey legs. While you are there, pick up an apple and a bag of cranberries uncooked. Also get an orange. You need some chicken broth
===============================
A mix of turkey and potatoes with a cranberry swirl, this is a classic supper to be served with a spoon.
Ingredients

1/2 cup chopped cooked turkey breast
1/2 cup mashed boiled potatoes
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 to 3/4 cup no-salt-added chicken broth
pinch poultry seasoning
1/4 to 1/2 tsp homemade cranberry sauce , or chopped cranberries, optional

Directions

Combine turkey, potato, applesauce, ½ cup broth, poultry seasoning and cranberry sauce, if using, in a medium saucepan set over medium. Boil, stirring occasionally, then remove from heat.
Scrape into a blender. Purée until smooth, adding remaining broth until desired consistency.

================================

I serve it with discs of Orange or I put a vegetable on the side and squirt orange juice over it. You'd be surprised how good it tastes.
That sounds good Diane. I think I am going to make that after my surgery. It's so strange how all the doctors require different things.
I went to my big pre-op class yesterday and they said I do not have to do liquids only before surgery and that after I get home, I get to start straight on to puree. The sleeve patients have to do two weeks of full liquids.
They also told me I would have that drain that I did not know about and that is fine but what scared me was that they said I would have a drain from the hernia repair and that it would be an open wound and have to be packed when I get home.Luckily my husband is not squemish.

It’s a big head game with yourself. I was a constant nibbler. Always making sure the plate, and everyone else’s, was clean. No wasting food here. I’m about 10 months post op. I could eat anything I want now if I chose to. Just chewed really well with small bites. Or blended up. Get some protein in. Take your vitamins. I do not hardly ever feel hungry like I used to. Sometimes that grumbling is the food, liquid, just passing through the new route. You can do it. I’ve lost 150lbs so far. Go for it.
