Is it May 4th yet?!

 My surgery is coming up this Friday May 4th and I can't wait! I was so nervous before, even considered not doing it at one point, and now its only a few days away! Purchasing my protein products, shopping for a new blender/chopper (by Ninja), cream soups, frozen fruit to mix my unflavored protein powder with, sugar free jello, cottage cheese, Mio water enhancer, and my grape protein shots to make my jello with. OMG! have I forgotten anything??

You sound exactly like me when I was getting ready for surgery *LOL* Don't forget to get all of the vitamins and supplements that the surgeon prescribed based on your bloodwork.

We'll all be thinking about you on your big day and waiting anxiously to hear how you are doing :)

It will be May 4th real soon

Hello Ladybicknasa,
My date is May 25th. I have stocked up on flavored waters, crystal lite, Greek yogert, protein shake mix, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jell-O and some baby food. I also got this thing like the “bullet” to mix and puree. Did you know you can freeze yogert? I will have to get some of those cream soups.
After Easter dinner I froze the left over mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes in small Tupperware. I wish it was closer to my date.
So are you on the liquid diet? I am not looking forward to that one.
What are protein shots?

Ann:eek:

i am scheduled for may 16 bypass surgery. i wonder why there is such a variation in pre op instructions.??? protein for two wks, the day before clear liquids. you have to have a since of humor to plan this out. i figured to get in six glasses of water and six protein shakes every hr u have to be drinking something.....thinking about getting a watch with a alarm. anyone with surgery on the 16th?i am looking forward to reading about everyones experiences.

Lee-Here's some good news for you, the protein shakes count toward your fluids for the day:) So if you drink six shakes that are 10 ounces each you have already had 60 ounces of your required fluids.

pat thank-you so very very very much!!! honestly l have been over whelmed.... my instruction sheet doen not clarify this. i add my protein drink to decaf coffee and found its good i do still add my sugar sub and creamer. i use the cosco protein that has 30 gm of protein. i let diet dr.pepper loose its fiz as a chaser with my routein meds which i am dissolving in water. some pills i break down with a pill cutter check with pharmacy first to make sure each med is ok to dissolve...time released meds for instance. above all check to see if your medical team needs to assess what is going on. thank you all for such great input. and yes i am doing things now to practice and make sure i am ready post op. lee 0412

this was a helpful post, btw how did surgery go? I liked the list of stuff to stock up on!! I am cheering for you!!

My surgery went OK, no complications :) It took longer than usual though (3 hours) because they had to avoid the area directly below my navel due to a hernia repair I had last June. Mesh was used to reinforce the repair so the hernia would not happen again. Because of the mesh they had to make my incisions above the "normal" area so they could go underneath the mesh to get at my stomach, etc. The worst part for me was the 4 day hospital stay. My biggest fear was of being in bad pain but the pain was well controlled and it seemed like someone was checking in in me every 5 minutes *LOL*. I don't think I slept more than 2 1/2 hours the entire time I was there. They over hydrated me so I had 24 pounds of excess fluids in me by the time I was released. It was good to get back home.
