I have met with my surgeon and together we have determined that gastric bypass will be the best surgery for me
I meet with my nutritionist on July 7, 2020. I have to meet with her for six visits.
My surgery will be in March 2021.
Are there any advise on what I should be doing between now and my surgery? I want to enjoy this journey but I am scared about having surgery and the pain right after the surgery.

I just completed my visits. i only have left to do my Phycology appt and sleep study this Thurseday! You should be starting to lose the recommended weight your doctor recommends. I was told to lose 11 lbs i lost 25z. Walking is amaxing i lost 25 lbs walking and using my fitness pal app. Should try to eliminate cafine and sugar from your diet. Drink lots of water. I am one week post op and Cassy Wood posted a good point of view as to what you should be doing. My doctor had set a goal of 20 pounds to drop prior to surgery which was done while i was on the pre op liquid diet. You will see from the postings on the site that peoples pain varies person to person. Some have terrible pain and in my case i had zero pain. Since you have a good amount of time prior to your surgery date start to make small changes now to your diet and exercise so that you are not racing to get to the finish line.

Welcome!! I am preop, but 4 more appointments until it’s sent off to the insurance. I made monthly goals in the beginning, so that when surgery came I wouldn’t feel surprised by any of the changes. I gave myself a lot of time for certain goals. The easiest thing for me to give up was caffeine, which is not required. The hardest thing for me to work through is no drinking liquids with meals. Working towards getting enough protein is a big one. I tried tracking my food, and I just don’t have the mindset for it. But there are other ways to keep tabs on food intake, so I’m not hard on myself for not tracking. Decide if you’re going to share this with people and who. Some will be more understanding than others. I’m not secretive about having the surgery, and I don’t care what others opinions are on it either, but I’m blunt and if someone tells me I’m taking the easy way out, I’ll just tell them they’re making it easy for me to not talk to them again. This is a journey of personal strength, emotion, will power, and it is awesome that you care enough about yourself to begin this.

Congrats on taking steps to take care of you. I was afraid of the pain too, put as someone said earlier everyone is different so it is hard to predict. I was one of the fortunate ones with very little pain just minor discomfort. Starting to walk now is one of the best ways to help prepare. The better condition that you are in the quicker the healing and it is so important to start moving quickly after the surgery to help release the gas, get things moving and to avoid constipation. Making minor changes now can also be helpful. There are some great tools out there too that can help you track your food, protein, exercise, etc. This has really helped me stay on track. Good luck and stay strong.
