Hello everyone. I'm 67 years old, have fought the infamous "Battle of the Bulge" for as long as I can remember and had a gastric bypass just 2 weeks ago, on the 13th of January. I am (roughly) 5 ft 5 inches tall, weighed anywhere between 360 and 380 (that fluctuations were mostly due to extreme differences between the scales in the various doctors offices) and my weight was (is) killing me. I'm still hurting from surgery, don't really seem to want anything like real food but I keep getting passing cravings (mashed potatoes and gravy, anyone?). Would love to hear what is normal, what isn't, and any recommendations for safe snacking

Welcome! I didn’t have an appetite after my bypass for almost a month, and even then it would come and go. I find I’m more thirsty than anything else. I don’t remember craving anything either. My surgery was 10/26/2020. I also had my gallbladder out at the same time, so I think that kind of made my recovery a little slower. I do remember at 2 weeks out I snacked on sugar free pudding, I always put a scoop of protein powder into it, and sugar free popsicles, but I didn’t snack on anything else. I guess maybe broth, but I wasn’t really into the pureed phase as far as textures go, so I still had a lot of protein shakes and protein water at that point.

Hi, Jaylee. Welcome to the group. Seems like you're less than 2 weeks out, so I am going to assume you are still on a full liquid diet? If that's the case, you can have pudding and jello but that's about it for snacking. Mashed potatoes and gravy will have to wait for the puree stage lol

Hi JayLee & welcome! Congrats on your weight loss surgery! Missy’s right, sugar free jello & pudding and also sugar free ice pops. I enjoy my chocolate premier protein shakes too... kinda is like a sweet snack for me. I drink 1/2 sometime between breakfast & lunch and the other 1/2 between lunch & dinner.

I've pretty much stuck with the liquid portions of my current diet...more juice than anything else. Just sometimes want something a tiny bit more...substantial. I have some protein shakes, but I can't drink very much of those at a time and am not sure how long they will last in the fridge. Next week (now that my incisions aren't soaking my clothes every 5 seconds) I'm going back for my 2 week check up a week late. 3 weeks, and I'm finally feeling a lot better.

P. S. The potato cravings are more because of my potassium levels being a bit low.
