Looking for a mentor/support before surgery.

Met with bariatric dr yesterday. They were unhappy with the protein bar supplements. Talked about protein told her I had appointment with VA dietician to work on meal/snack schedule. Plus recipe reduction for smaller less wasted food. For weigh in I lost 2 more pounds since the first. I mentioned about the 7% at previous appt asked if it Is better this time. I have lost 44 pounds since surgery and I am over expectations for this appointment.

after five hour round trip for dr. Went to yard to work on burying cinder blocks for the pool shed. Oh my gosh it was warm out there even at 7 pm. Got holes dug for 4 blocks and had to relevel the first block. But that is progress. Husband even came out and did one block, it had a root in it that was ugly. Have more roots to eliminate today before leveling. Husband says he got the inside holes dug for the floor to the shed this morning. It should be done before son comes to build shed on sat.

pool update I got a hold of the landscaper that I consulted. They came and started leveling the sand on Tuesday. Wednesday they brought more sand finished leveling. They helped put the liner in place and put together the frame. Started adding water. Was coming out of the hose as a trickle. Went in house to get water for my thermal glass . Heard water in basement. Shut faucet to hose off water stopped in basement. Have plumber coming today.

today is shopping day. Will see how much shed time I can get in.

be fun be safe.

this week I am finally filling the pool with water. It is about half full, just under the outlet holes that go to the filter. Getting there. Went to ortho dr yesterday. When you ask for a shot they know you are in pain. At last visit we talked about hip replacement. I do not want to do it during the summer time. Mention one year bariatric surgery in feb when I should be at most of weight loss. So we have pushed the august discussion to feb. time will tell if less weight makes hip better. Today is clean sand from filter to hook up spray phosphate chemical in water leaf capture and set up solar cover. There is a lot more stuff to do, but I have a list. I lost one pound last week from bariatric doc to ortho. Got pain meds for the hip. Slept better last night, than in the last week

Serious set back on activity on Friday. I was working on pool filter before getting shot in left hip to help with pain on walking. Plans were to go with son to store 2 hours away to get birthday present. And pick up food from favorite fast food Portillo’s the Italian beef is dream worthy. And ride home the next two hours. So I got gravel to put in filter. Husband said pea gravel. The stuff in the bag was so dirty. So I tried other gravels and picked the white kind. So after I get 40 pounds of gravel in the filter tank husband mentions that the white gravel could have lime in it and totally mess with the water quality. So yesterday morning it was trying to get the gravel out of the tank. I have the tank on a wagon so I wasn’t lifting from the ground. But when I did lift the tank I felt my lower back shift. I finished emptying the gravel even though my back was uncomfortable. Then I went for shot in hip. Dr was surprised I hadn’t been in for shot earlier from what he saw on the mri and X-rays fron aug and sept of last year. Told him I pass kidney stones without meds and have high tolerance for pain. He said that my weight now makes me eligible for hip replacement. Without telling doc I wanted to wait for after summer to do surgery. I did mention that it might be best after one year anniversary from bariatric surgery. He said the lighter weight could be beneficial for recovery and liked my thinking.

Today I went to chiropractor for adjustment. I feel like a real dummy for messing up my back the way I did. I knew better. He said take it easy and ice the pain down. Today I have been in and out of sleep with ice packs all day. It is very inconvenient since the slightest movement takes my breath away with the pain. Hip is doing better. Can take the positive on that.

All I needed was to get filter running vacuum waste from pool add shock and chlorine and my water time would begin. I am so frustrated with myself right now. I am fortunate my chiropractor is open on sat and Sunday for walk-in appts. I will be back there tomorrow. Crosses fingers I can work on filter, suspects I will have to wait. Oh well. I messed up. Hard to think of food right now when moving around is tough.

I did lots of resting yesterday. The plan is to continue resting today. Mostly. Going back to chiropractor for adjustment. If still doing bad will get VA to do MRI or X-ray. What is really frustrating is being so close to getting in and enjoying the results. Today is Father’s Day so we are taking a road trip . To get his computer up and running

So is the computer going with y'all on the road trip or just "running" after you? :D

I was once assaulted, thrown from a staircase. Tore my shoulder tendons. In PT I was told to ice it until it hurt, then a little longer. I then had to find the muscle fibers at the tendon, stick my fingertips in deep, and make small circles. Hurt like HELL but after, Ahhhhhhh... such relief.

That's friction massage. Ask your doc if that would help you. Could do more damage, maybe.
Wow that must have been very tough. I can’t imagine digging for the tendons. Ice is enough for me. I really am doing much better, just nags here and there. I was able to put filter balls in tank but not skilled enough to get the seal to not leak. I also put in three bags of shock, pool place is suggesting 9 bags for each 1000 gal of water. I used the skimmer to clear stuff off the water. Thinks I want to kill some cottonwood trees to eliminate their fluff from my pool. But the tree is not in my yard. Should be able to vacuum tomorrow

I am happy to report the pool filter is assembled and working with a few adjustments by husband. I was able to use the water hose vacuum to get some leaves and misc from bottom of pool. The pool store was saying I needed 9 pounds of shock before adding the chemical for phosphates to be removed. I added three bags and the chlorine level is off the charts. Will get water checked before adding that chemical. Put the solar cover out to add to water temp, it dropped to 79 degrees. I have to get at least 82. May get in tomorrow to hook up the skimmer. Will probably freeze the but cheeks off. Pulled out my swimsuits tonight. Wonders how many are gonna be loose? I have 6 suits, 2 bottoms one with swim top the other with a tank shirt. 4 one piece suits. Will be fun to experiment.

Today I met with local VA dietician to discuss my trouble spots protein intake and sources, primarily. Then meals, what is a meal when your body is only accepting 3 oz total of anything. Still don’t know if I can have anything with tomatoes or oranges. How do you cook a three oz meal and get all your protein. Breakfast used to be 2 eggs, a turkey sausage patty (once a week bacon 2 slices) and toast(Sara lee delightful). 2 slices. Now the meal is one egg or one sausage patty but not both to make a meal. And I still have issues making anything aka cooking. Leftovers don’t get eaten and it bothers the tar out of me to throw food away. I loved salad, before surgery, get the romaine bag mix put it in a bowl add some tomato cucumber maybe some green pepper and real bacon pieces. Have a small condiment dish of dressing to stick fork in get dressing on the fork, stick in salad. Enjoy. Food and meals are two different animals after surgery. One Go to meal was bread, peanut butter, strawberry preserves, choice of two celery stalks or handful of baby carrots. Or sometimes a Granny Smith apple or orange or watermelon. Husband loves strawberries but is allergic, so I don’t do those in the house. Can’t have the bread for sandwich. Could do peanut butter and celery as a meal I guess. But even peanut butter is not a high source of protein with its fats. Knows the bariatric dietician is not impressed with protein bars but it does have the whole 20 gr protein I need for a meal. Or the 12 gr of protein from Greek yogurt. But that just doesn’t feel like a meal. Besides the yogurt was a snack pre surgery. The dietician and I talked about sweeteners and sugar replacements in depth too. Reported that bariatric dr recommends stevia over other choices. I have found a 6 piece rotisserie chicken in salad at Dairy Queen for a food option. Or the famous Hardee’s lettuce wrap burger, progress makes 2 meals each.

I am whining, I admit.

Good news 4 pounds down since June 10 the three month check in with doc. Even better news I am 100 pounds down from my highest weight in 2017. I have 2 pair of size 20 pants one Is jeans still too small. The other are green khakis Cotten, and they fit and I wore them to dietician and weigh in today.

Went back to chiropractor today back is still having issues. I have not been doing anything strenuous I promise. Did get help cutting boards for base of pool shed, on Wednesday, now just have to assemble. Crosses fingers for this weekend.

The pool has been ready for two days, for two days it has been storming. I will get in it sooner or later. I just wanted to share and organize my thoughts

Oh yeah I keep forgetting I have colonoscopy on the 16 of July. So I will have to prep for that. Three days cleansing. And meet proteins on liquid diet. New challenge. This is such a good place thank you everyone.

I make all my updates on this thread. I have made a point to look at life as an adventure. My personal goal everyday is to make someone laugh. I am fortunate that I can even laugh at myself. My best story lately is asking the teller at the bank to give me 25 dollar bills on my withdrawal. She said but we don’t have 25 bills so I say back well I guess 20 plus 5 will do. I have been wondering my b vitamins are up from the multivitamin and vita nourish water, wonders if that is where the energy is coming from. I am still resting my back from a week ago Friday. It is much improved but certain movements are still irritating it. Weather tomorrow is only half chance at rain May get some yard work in. Be fun think positive and be safe.

Hi again, I had weigh in yesterday I am down 2 more pounds since June 25. I have kinda been out of connection here at the site while resting my back. I went to chiropractor 4 times to get my back in place after messing it up with the pool filter. My acupuncture doc also addressed the issue when I went to my appointment for my right shoulder. I can say that my shoulder and back are doing much better.

On the 4th of July I fell in the grass outside to pool, got right back up and didn’t put too much credit to it. Landed on my left side hip included. Got a nice bruise. I went to chiropractor on Tuesday and got adjusted back in place. Day or two later, I was feeling so much better that after listening to husband ask when I would be able to get on motorcycle (2010 Harley Davidson Nostalgia mine and paid for). I went to the garage and got on just to sit. I did not stand the bike up. Didn’t have the right shoes on. That is a decision I regret getting on the bike. My left hip was doing so well after the shot. Even after the fall. My water therapy was going well. Now my hip is not doing well. My water therapy aggravates and irritates the hip. I am in more pain after my water therapy. It is just as bad as before the shot. There is a difference on where the pain is located. It is not where all the arthritis is, which the orthopedic dr explained is why I need the hip surgery when I got the shot. He is surprised I am not jumping in to have surgery right away. I asked to wait for 1 year bariatric anniversary to since that is when I should be close to leveling out on my weight loss. I can still lose after then just not in leaps and bounds. I have lived with the pain this long I can deal with it for a little bit more. I am using my cane more and more and I resent the durn thing.

I haven’t done as much yard work since back was out and walking is hard to do. I did get in the pool for a few hours a day weather permitting. This week it has been raining 4 out of the last 5 days. Monday I had a hemorrhoid rupture. It leaked blood for like 10 hours. I was freaking out some especially since I knew I had appt for colonoscopy on Friday. Called local VA not much of answer there go to hospital if there is too much blood. Left message with IA City VA GI clinic. They called back today. Wednesday I had appt with orthopedic to address the pain got X-ray and ct scan. Results I will learn about on the 20th. I have been on liquid diet for last two days prepping for routine colonoscopy. Today I am drinking the prep solution. Funny thing about that…I am the person that used to take 4 hours to drink 12 oz can of soda. So how do you explain to dr that there is no way I can drink 8 oz of prep in 15 min. Followed by three more 8 oz prep drinks. And they expect me to drink 32 more ounces then drive 2 1/2 hours to get to surgery at 2 pm. One of the questions I had was with bariatric eating I am supposed to have protein levels per day and I am trying to figure how that works with the prep solution.

For the liquid diet I tried adding isoprene protein. First I put it in the hot water thinking it would dissolve. I was wrong. Then I put the hot isoprene water in my ninja . Which started to explode out of the container overflowing into the bowl I had set up for the jello. New plan add protein to cold water then add to jello and hot water that is mixed. Better but still separated some as it settled. Tried to give dogs some of the first jello. They tried it because it was mom’s plate but they bailed on it. Third jello I added flavored liquid protein that you put in water. Changed the taste but edible.

Now I am close to finishing the first batch of prep and considering starting the second batch to avoid on the road trip delays. Maybe next time I should get accommodations for overnight. Add that to the memory banks for five years from now.. hope you enjoyed my chat. Be fun stay safe
