Looking for a Pediatric Gastric Surgeon near Montana, Will Travel is needed

Any suggestions on a pediatric surgeon that will do the band on a 17-year-old? We are in Montana but I am willing to take her anywhere to a reputable surgeon.

Why do you need a pediatric surgeon, per se? Bariatric specialists can do surgery on people of all ages. Do you have a bariatric center near you, or is there a hospital with a bariatric clinic in it? Personally, I wouldn't seek surgery on a person under the age of 21, which is where scientists say we pretty much stop growing and developing. This could backfire. But there may be a less invasive type of procedure you could perform on a child.

And really, the first step and a step we all take either before or after, is teaching the child about nutrition. And controlling sugar is really hard with kids, but weaning your child off tiny amounts at a time often works best. I remember when I decided to reduce sugar in my diet. It was a huge problem, and I went back and forth. But ultimately, sugar started to be pretty gross and using less was easy.

Don't sub artificial sweeteners. Instead, introduce fruits and naturallu sweet foods in small amounts, and do add a little sugar as needed, but really just a tiny bit. Tastebuds adapt, and then cravings reduce. Best of luck to you.

I have done my research... I had a gastric bypass 20-some years ago, and there are several other family members that have also gone with a bypass and have had great success. Trust me I have done all the "other avenues" that are healthy ways to go. I truly believe it is genetics. A 17-year-old active kid should not weigh 265. I have talked with a surgeon, he was ready to do it but since she is 17 he can't, due to his malpractice coverage.

Lastly like I said I was her, I fought with it for years, i was the fat kid in school. SHE is the key decision maker in this. I raised her to think and act like an adult and not like the kids today that sit around and play video games. She enjoys playing sports and works on a large cattle ranch.

I don't have any recommendations but I wish you luck in your journey, but if you can't find one she will be 18 soon and you might be able to have access to more local doctors at that time. I'm sure you just want the best for her and I wish you the best in this journey. You don't have to justify any of your decisions to this group and I hope you get some of the answers you wanted.
