Losing one day at a time.

Hey everyone. I am always looking for somebody to share with and thought I would try this little corner. I am upper middle 50/s in south central Oklahoma and unfortunately it seems that almost zero guys attend support groups. Wish they did because I have tried several and there just isn't enough testosterone in the groups. In fact not any. LOL. Anyway if someone anyone wants to share some thoughts and experiences let me know. I am a lap band 10 months ago with stomach plication. i have my ups and downs and a few plateaus also. I visit my surgeon regularly and I am just looking forward to the day I reach my goal weight.

Hi GhettoSmurf, Welcome to the forum. I had the RnY and I am doing great, I had a bout with alcohol about a year out but I got a handle on that, talk abou a set back, that was not fun. I am doing great now though, I am at a plateau now but I have been doing a lot of running so I think I am building muscle so it off sets any fat loss as far as the scale is concerned. My support group here has a mix of men and wemon but I learn a lot from every one. At one of my first meeting one of the gals was so happy her feet were getting smaller and I thought that wouldn't happen to me, but it did, now I have to get some new work boots, they cost about 375 dollors so I wasn't as excited about it. But it is well worth the price to feel healthy again and be able to hike for hours at a time effortlessly.

How do you like the Band, I opted for the RnY because I heard the band could slip and may need some adjusting in the hospital and if it happened to me I would be out in the middle of nowhere and have to be medivaced off the hill. I spend a lot of time in the woods. What is stomach plication, is it something they do with all banding or a seperate proceedure?

Let me know how things are going. There are lots of great folks on her, both guys and galls, every one is willing to listen and share there successes and challanges. Take care. Tom

Hello TwoMas, I opted for the band and plication because both are reversible if any complications arose. Also, the band can be adjusted as I go, (and that means if my diet goes of the rail they can adjust the band and I'm ready again). Plication is where the stomach is folded in half and sewn together bout the size of a banana. Looks like your doing well with yours. I of course was much heavier so I have a longer journey, but a journey with a happy ending. Good luck to you.

hi
ghettogsmurf

welcome to the best chat room on here. Sounds like your doing well with your lap band, are you limited to 3oz. Of food at a time and little sips of water too?
I have signed up for bariatric but haven't got my surgery date yet.
This room has alot of kind people who will answer your questions and share there stories. Welcome abroad.

Hello Bigtallsis,

After the surgery there was a process where I went from liquids to mush to blended foods. But now I am able to eat a least 4 ounces of high protein like tuna or skinless chicken breast along with 2 ounces of low carb vegetables three times a day. It's plenty of food and with the right seasoning very palatable. The worst part of the surgery is dealing with the gas that is used to inflate you so they can have room to see what they are doing as they perform the surgery. It can and mine was very painful but it is worth the discomfort when your talking about the end game which is getting control of your health and attaining the opportunity for an active lifestyle. Good luck with yours.
