Migraines?

Does anyone suffer from Migraines, if so have they gotten better since surgery? I have had terrible ones, and my doctor said they might improve with weight loss. I hope they do but man. They suck!
I use to get migraines pre-menopause. Thankfully that took care of them for me. I don't know if weight loss helps or not, but perhaps it does because I think obesity does have an affect on hormones too.

Has your doctor or OB discussed the possibility of erratic hormones during weight loss? Neither of mine did and I was frustrated about it. It’s not something that happens to everyone, so please don’t feel like I’m saying it’s going to happen to you. You might want talk with your team about it. I wish I’d have been given a heads up about the possibility.

I’m off estrogen too for blood clot concerns. I’m actually off everything now because I had an ablation in July. The PMS stuff is still killing me but at least I’m not bleeding for months at a time.

After my ablation in 03, I could stop birth control pills, and my occasional migraines ceased almost entirely. My poor mother suffered horribly from them (this was before most migraine treatments other than a shot at the hospital). Luckily after her hysterectomy, she rarely had them ever again.

Emacc, I hope your surgery helps with yours.

Unfortunately they have not improved since surgery. Matter of fact they have gotten worse. They had been under somewhat control for the last 5 years with medication and Botox injections. I am 8 months out since surgery and in the last two months I would say they have increased dramatically. Was in the hospital for 5 days at the beginning of November for DHE protocol treatment to get relief and having MRI tomorrow to see what is going on.
For now, we adjust medications, run tests and try to see what we can do. Maybe you will be lucky and it will help because the doctors also told me that losing weight could help with the migraines

I hope they can figure something out for you! I want to ask my PCP about Botox injections! Sending good vibes your way!

I have migraines for many years. The meds I’m on pretty much help. But there a days I’m in bed for a few days with shades and ice packs on my head and taking my meds to alleviate the pain. Here 2 weeks before my surgery date I find out from the pharmacy my medication I’m taking for my migraines the insurance won’t pay. I’m frantic and my doctor is doing everything he can do. I finally had to get in touch with my insurance and yes the aren’t paying for my meds. They told me to go to my account for the list of migraine medications that are accepted by your plan. Come to find out the medication brand name my insurance dropped actually has on their accepted list of medications is the generic brand. This whole fiasco could have been solved if the pharmacy substituted the Name Brand to the generic brand. The is why my doctor didn’t write “Brand Name Only”. My doctor said the reason “Brand Name Only” is written is if patients don’t respond to the generic medications. It does happen. He said most of the time it is left blank to allow the pharmacy to be able to interchange depending on what the patients insurances will be paying. Sorry for such a long explanation.
