My 600 lb life

Does anyone else watch this show? I try watching every Wed, partly for inspiration, partly for education. I always find myself rooting for the participants as they deal with their love/hate relationship with food. I have mixed feelings as I watch their struggles with self-esteem issues & how they respond to Dr. Now's weight loss plan pre-surgery. I almost feel like a voyeur sometimes. I was wondering if y'all watch My 600 lb Life & how you feel about it.

I watch it with a sort of morbid fascination, my husband hates it! It’s very interesting to hear all the excuses as to why they can’t stick to the diet, and it’s very disappointing when you watch it all the way to the end and they never even get to the surgery.

I completely agree about the morbid fascination. I try not to look at the clock b/c I know at a certain point they won't get the surgery before the show ends. I do like the follow-up shows they are showing now where some finally get with the program. Others are so successful and their lives are transformed. Similar to so many people here.

My husband hates that I watch it too. I just find it fascinating to see people’s journeys. It reminds me that although we all don’t share the same struggles, we ALL have struggles.

I love the show. Prior to WLS I would watch it and wonder it what it would be like to be like the people on the show that have great success with the surgery and on the flip side I would watch it and say why bother with the surgery because I would be the one person that doesn't meet the requirements for weight loss prior to surgery. One of the underlying themes of the show that I find fascinating is the underlying emotional, trauma or abuse that the patients have gone thru. I am sure that some of the reasons why Dr. Now selects them for the show is because of the tritylating or sensationalism of the story to make it more interesting for the reality show aspect.

I hope he feels others will see themselves in the participants & can relate to the struggles they face dealing with those emotions & traumas. It hopefully is a gift to motivate people facing similar issues & doesn't trigger ptsd.

I have seen some episodes of different people. I never thought I would get WLS. Fooled myself. I always thought you had to be 600 lbs just to qualify for surgery. My bad. Some are very inspiring. Others you feel sad for. At least they have a plan to follow.

I watched religiously up until my surgery. It was interesting following each individual’s journey. But I did find myself rolling my eyes or yelling at the screen when they would not follow the diet & exercise plans laid out by Dr. Now. My husband could not stand the show and refused to watch with me. I really rooted for these individuals and just wanted them to be successful!

I have watched off and on. It could be so uplifting but also so sad to see people's misery. Watching those unwilling or unable to make changes, lack of support or worse no support could get to be too much - which is why I don't always watch. I do watch 1000 pound sisters as one got the surgery and one just keeps declining - learned what To Do and what Not To Do.
I get it - food addiction is real (live to eat verses eat to live) and without the support and encouragement it's rough.

1000lb sisters is another show that is frustrating to watch. I enjoy seeing the success especially now that their brother was approved for WLS, but watching the decline or bad choices makes me sad for them.

Agree. Was so happy their brother jumped on, he really wants success for his sisters and trying so hard to be supportive and encouraging. Tammy is in so much pain, you can hear and see it. I can't imagine how overwhelmed she must be.
It has been picked up for Season 3 and I will watch - I am totally invested in all their stories.
