Hey guys,

My name is Stacy and I've just joined the forums! :) I have surgery (sleeve) scheduled for May 28 and I am beyond excited to finally be getting it. It was first scheduled for April 23, then May 6, and finally our new date. Covid 19 has really thrown a wrench in lots of plans, hasn't it??

I'm 40 years old and am currently at my heaviest (about 380). I've been obese my whole life and every possible diet you can think of I've tried. Some have been temporarily successful, but I always gain it back and then some! So I finally made the decision to bite the surgery bullet. I'm a bit scared, but the excitement outweighs it.

I'm a mom, wife, mom to 5 furbabies, crafter, and 911 dispatcher. Thanks for having me!

Stacy

Welcome to the group Stacy. You are going to want to just read all the posts in all the forums and get to know us. You can search by issue like nausea or new clothes or sex after surgery and you will find testimonials from real people who actually experienced all the stuff you're wondering about.

I would also say be prepared for a lot of really stupid reactions from people who are usually nice and intelligent. No one really understands what it means to have the surgery unless they have had it themselves. A lot of people think it's some kind of a shortcut or that you're cheating. But the fact is it is your only choice. No other way is going to ever work for you. ever

And surgery is the easiest part of the process. The hardest part is retraining your brain to eat correctly, learning about diet so that you know you're not going to eat something you shouldn't and sitting at a table with a whole bunch of food that you cannot eat.

There is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow however. And if you get discouraged or frustrated just come on over here. We'd love to hear all about it.

Thanks for the welcome! I look forward to getting to know you all over the coming months. :)

Welcome to the group! This is an awesome group of people, and unless you know anyone who has had bariatric surgery, are pretty much the only ones who will know what you’re going through. Everyone’s experiences are different, but the collective knowledge of this group is vast, so hopefully you’ll be able to find the support and answers to any questions you have.

Welcome Stacy! It's great to hear they have your surgery rescheduled! I am guessing you started your pre-op diet today? Hopefully you haven't had to start and stop it with all of the rescheduling due to Covid-19.

You are not alone in your attempts at weight loss. Most of us here tried all of the diets with little success and then regain plus some afterwards. It is great that you have made this decision. And you have come to a great place for support and information. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! Good luck and keep us updated on your progress :)

Warmest welcome Stacy & congrats on your new date!

We're a very open group with a sense of humor so no questions are off limits here. :)

Welcome. I was 375 before my sleeve surgery on 1/21/2020. I've lost 75 pounds. The biggest truth is that "Fat Brain" doesn't go away after surgery. You will always deal with your eating disorder. I can't tell you how wonderful I feel; how much easier it is to get around, get dressed, etc. I have a lot more to lose; I still weigh 300 and have arthritis in my knees, so it's not totally smooth sailing yet.

My way to success is to track everything I eat; I do it in the website SparkPeople, but there are various apps out there. If I don't track my food, I'm lost at sea with eating. I have a daily sheet with eating schedule, all my meds to check off, blood sugar readings, etc. Track, track, track; keep track of protein.

Best wish of success to you.

Mary

I couldn't agree more that you will always battle your eating disorder as you would any addiction. Keep working on your mental and emotional well being and you can keep it at arm's length, at least most of the time!
