Hello all,
I have been to my consultation appointment and have started on the pre-bariatric diet for the gastric sleeve. I am 46 years old and currently 248 pounds. I have sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, GERD, and chronic pain from said arthritis. Has anyone that has had lessening of arthritis pain with weight loss? Anyone been able to stop using their CPAP? I am not nervous about the procedure itself. Truth be told I am ready to get it over with so I can heal and continue with this new way of life.

Hi cc, I have been able to go without my CPAP machine because of weight loss from this surgery. I don't have arthritis but I did have joint pain in my knees and hips because of carrying too much weight. I no longer have that pain. Most people report improvement in weight-related joint pain after surgery. Sometimes the stress has gone on for too long and the damage has been done. But often there are therapies and treatments for that.

Your outcome can't be predicted, but you'll have the best results if you follow your team's instructions.

Welcome and good luck.

Hello, buddy! Congratulations on starting! That's a big step! Many patients, especially those with arthritis, report that their joint discomfort significantly improves after losing weight. Indeed, depending on how your body reacts, some people can stop using CPAP entirely after a while. You're in the correct frame of mind; concentrate on getting better, stick to your strategy, and you'll soon see a difference. You're capable!
