Hello Karen, I’m having a sleeve. What about you, did you already have surgery?
Yes, I just had my 1 year anniversary post-surgery appointment this week. I had gastric bypass on July 12th, 2021. I was 59, weighed 234 which at 5'2" put me in the morbidly obese category. Because of past issues with acid reflux, although I was given the choice of either procedure, I chose the bypass.
Omg Adriana, it has been the best decision health wise in my life. I read as much as I could beforehand, from this site as well as several medical websites that gave me confidence that I could do this.
I had a few weeks worth of protein shakes so I didn't have to grocery shop for those 1st 2-3 weeks after surgery (yikes). I also had beef & chicken stock, sf jello & popsicles, lemon & lime juice in case I got tired of plain water, and Kroger's carbmaster yogurt plus lowfat cottage cheese for my pureed stage.
I already had stopped drinking sodas & juices for several weeks before surgery, and drinking 4 16oz bottles of water daily has been my habit for years, luckily. Practicing sipping 64+ ozs of water daily is perhaps the best habit you can start pre-surgery.
You will have great results if you follow your bariatric team's advice and try to achieve your 64ozs water, 60+gms protein, and daily movement to kickstart and maintain weight loss.
Don't despair as your body adjusts to your pre- and post-surgery diets, especially liquids. It's only for a few weeks, and you will be so thrilled as the weight starts melting off.
Long reply for a short post, sorry, but I'm feeling so positive following my 70lb weight-loss so far. 15-30lbs more over the next several months and I will be in maintenance mode. You too will get there! ❤❤
