I have been thinking about having bariatric surgery for a very long time, at least the last 10 years, over the past 5 years I have done extensive research. I wanted to try non surgical medically supported weight loss first so I did. I tried Wegovy, for 6 months, it had barely any effect, it never lowered my hunger, never helped me lose weight, even with diet and exercise, over 6 months I lost 5lbs and gained back that and then some. I then tried Contrave which I had to stop after 2 months, because it made my anxiety soooo much worse...and it didnt have any effects on hunger, etc.

I found a new doctor who will support me through weight loss surgery, and ordered all the bloodwork that the surgery team and my insurance could ever want. I am going for my initial surgical consult on Wednesday. I have so much stuff ready. I have my evidence of my wegovy and contrave usage. I have all my blood work, data from my cgm showing insulin resistance, my MRI reports showing that my spine is suffering from my high weight, and a letter from my neurologist saying that weight loss, the sooner the better, will help my spinal health greatly, a letter I have written to the insurance telling about my health and quality of life issues, how I plan to maintain weight loss with surgery, detailing my support system, etc... I am ready...

My GP thinks that given my high cholesterol which has gone up rapidly over the past year, and my insulin resistance that is skirting the line of type 2 diabetes I should consider gastric bypass which is my goal surgery. The surgeon I am going to is very well reviewed, the hospital has many accolades in their bariatric surgery and medical weight management program. I am hoping that have done some of the work ahead of time, as far as blood work, etc that it helps the process go more quickly.

So here I am , new, but I have done my research and due diligence for years now.....I am finally ready to make the next step.

You've obviously done a lot of careful planning and research, which is already a significant start. It's fantastic that you considered all of your alternatives and obtained solid medical advice before choosing surgery. When combined with careful long-term planning, as you are currently doing, bariatric surgery has the potential to change people's lives.

To maintain a clear image of your health changes before and after surgery, it may be helpful to monitor things like your BMI, calorie requirements, or progress trends. That portion can be made easier with tools like MyCalSuite's calculators (BMI, BMR, body fat, etc.), which can also motivate you as your figures get better over time.

You have a strong strategy and a helpful group of people.
